Got asked a few days ago what a Blue Top was, only just remembered. Think it was a lad off here stafford, Not sure.

Anyways, WTF is a blue top? The red top is only nicknamed a "red top" due to the colour of the plug cover, So unless somebody has painted theirs blue and called it a blue top I'm clueless. Weird

as i said a while back. a blue top was a special race homologation spec engine, they were the first 100 engines off the line in kaiserslaughten for race use. they had about 200bhp and were used sucessfully for a good long time.

same engine code. it was for homologation reasons.. just like the sport had a normal 1.3 engine number.

Oh yeh course, i take it they just look like a redtop but with blue plug cover, perhaps a different injection system?

if i remember right the red tops they put in the cav touring cars had the head reversed some how so the inlet was at the front and thus a direct ram of cold air straight into the throttle boddies and all the plug covers were an anodised blue sheet of ally but i could be wrong

Any info on whether anyone has tried this on a road going XE engined car?

the actual gains on the swindon engines were from the improved exhaust route rather than the intake having RAM air (which only actually did anything above 80mph)

there are very few swindon engines left and they are generally in ex touring cars for super saloon use.
