After just rebuilding a mates 1.4 and after a few teething problems its just not getting enough petrol when you push it on the road. If you build the revs up then its all good but when you stamp the throttle it mostly just fades and sometimes stalls. Has anyone had similar problems ?

i had a problem like that. I found the trouble was the pipe that joins to the pump, as i could see petrol on the floor under the car. the tube that comes of the tank had corroded and was causing petrol to leak and not giving the car suffisent fuel to run properly. simple i no, but have ya cheked?

Yes all the pipes around the tank were checked as it got a new tank ,the fuel filter was changed as this was causing it to cut out when reved at the start and the new fillter sorted this out ,but now it chokes itself when pushed on the road .It will rev freeley when pushed at idle ?
Is it a proper SRi?
Not a SRi engine conversion?
Sounds like the fuel pumps struggling, or the pressure is low.

Yes its a proper sri ,i was thinking the pump cant cope as it just dies when you floor it. how would i check the preasure without a gauge ?

obviously without a gauge you cant get an exact reading, but if it is at pressure it should fire up and idle so if it idles then it should run too. have you checked the fuel pipe unions for any leaks or wear? also sensors senders etc?

might not be fueling, check the ignition and injection system, all the sensors etc.
