Do any of you lovely people know if the speedo signal from the gearbox transducer to the Astra digi dash is the right signal needed to control the corsa C EPAS.
Cheers

Anyone?

its not. the speed input to the epas is from the ABS unit.

you could rig up a 555 timer and some ciruitry to fake an ABS input and also have it on a Pot so you can vary the "weight" of the steering.

Thanks Stu
So i take it the signal from the gearbox transducer is pulsed? Would you know where I can get a wiring diagram for the conversion and information on 555 timers because i've never heard of them before.

Thanks

hmmmm maybe its better you send the epas ecu off to walden and pay the ?200 to get it done ;)

agree with stuart, by the time you have rigged up the ecu and necessary timer it would have been cheaper and less of a ballache so send it to a company who will do it for you. if you do send it off tho can you please state where and how much it cost etc or if you do decide to diy it then a guide would be good fella.

Will do chap.
Being and electrican and a tight ass with money, i'll definately be going for the DIY option first!!!

it will cost about ?200 to have some one do it for you. or about ?10 in bits to diy lol..

oops just saw your an electrician... best stay away from electronics then :p

Cheeky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've actually left the ECU with the techy from work that reacons that he might be able to find out exactly what the ecu is looking for and needs(signal wise) through the internet just with the codes on the boards.
If anyone can find it he can(you'd be amazed at the amount of free porn he's found!!!!)

If and when he finds the in's and out's of the ECU then maybe(hopefully) we can build/design something to suit. As soon as i know something i'll let you know and if any of you lot find any information, please let me( and the other novaloaders) know.
Cheers

the spec for ABS signals should appear in the very first google he does lol.

failing that get any corsa c with the epas column, sling a portable scope onto the speed signal and see how it changes with vehicle speed etc. then simply replicate it. use a pot on the signal source to change the frequency to change the assitance. simple ;)

simple? in who's opinion lol. if it was me i'd send it off to the man in the know but im a tight ass too so i'd probably just end up with a quick rack and some mega skinny ass wheels lol with 50psi hehe easy turn lol.

Stuart

6" slicks + quick rack is NOT heavy :p your just poofs lol

lol
ive got arms like olive oil...i was thinking more of a push bike tyre lol bout inch and half lol and a quaiffe quick rack. wouldnt make that much difference to the amount of understeer im getting on the van anyway lol.

doesnt it say on joff's wip thread bout how he done his corsa epas?

Unfortunatly pots don't change frequency stu, they change resistance. So if you put a pulse signal through a pot, the pulse (frequency) wouldn't change only the current of the signal.

If I could find out what signal input(millivolts, milliamps) and what voltage the ECU is looking for then hopefully we could frig it!!

pot on a 555 timer with suitable circuitry to change the frequency.

ffs do i need to spell everything out in crystal clarity... or are people able to take snippets of info and then work out a solution themselves?... maybe im giving you lot too much credit lol

How did they get the EPAS on the Corsa B to work, sure they fitted them to the 1.0 12v and I wouldnt of thought they had ABS.

I've heard a few report of systems that completely do away with speed sensors etc,etc and control the weight of the steering with a pot.
The problem with having no speed control is that if you set the steering light, it's fine around a car park, but frightening at a ton.

i think you'll find that most corsas have abs..... its generally only ford and french car makers that capped out of fitting abs to all models of car lol

ill get some data and maybe look at desiging a speed sensor replacement device, but im damn slow at these things as ive got better things to do with my time, such as masturbating etc

Can't argue with that!!!!lol

This may be useful and its a bit cheaper than the HH conversion. The downside is its not adjustable.

i can garuntee that there is about ?10 worth of bits in that lol

Think you are paying for a bit of knowledge there I'm afraid

i know i like to charge for my time but i'd "only" charge about ?50-60 for that kind of thing...

Get one sorted & we can line your pockets;) Preferably an adjustable one.

When the EPAS takes its signal from the ABS system does it take it directly from the sensor or via the control unit? If its direct could you fit a single sensor just to use the signal for EPAS?

Bouch

The EPAS takes it signal via a control unit that changes the pulsed/digital signal from the ABS sensor and converts it to an analog signal. Only i don't know what type of signal.
If anyone out there whats to let me rip there Corsa C to bits for a weekend, i would be greatful.

This might work. The corsa C's, Astra G's and Zafira's had a stand alone signal converters in them. You can get them from a vauxhall dealer for ?10(bargin!). Part No. 9185826.
I'm hoping to put the output from the digi dash transducer into it. If not i'll have to fit a front hub from a corsa(that had ABS)to my nov and take the signal from the ABS sensor to the signal converter.

Novasport
06-10-06, 09:11 PM
Would that work? I have been looking on EPC and there is a speed sensor fitted to vehicles without ABS, the signal convertor must work with these in place of a ABS sensor & control unit.
Be a ball ache to fit sensor as you would need the correct hub aswell.
Still might not be correctly weighted then!
Best bet would be to find a scrap Corsa with no ABS to find out how it works & remove all necessary parts.

Just remebered, my missus had a Corsa C SXi with EPAS and that didn't have ABS

Bouch

I think all corsa's with EPAS had speed sensors on them reguardless if they had ABS or not.
As far as I know, the EPAS will work properly this way, but i'm trying to run it off the digi, so who knows??????
