Whats the best way of going about getting a lil more poke out of a 16xe in a nova?

4branch? de-cat? cams?

Whats the best?

Eventully will have TBs or Webbers

what do you want from the engine?

if your "eventually going to have TB's etc" then dont bother with anything now and save your cash ;)

Trouble with this engine is it needs rods IMO. that means its pointless going further if you quest power unless its going to rebuilt at some point. May aswell do that first unless a better flowing inlet manifold & exh will suffice.

But if you are doing rods & thinking of TBs you then ought to consider high comp pistons & pocketed ones for mad cams. You cant really stop spending... Thats the way I look at it anyhow.

If you just want to mildly tune, get a Mantzel type inlet.
Im pretty sure your quite stuck with cams, without changing the pistons.

You could do 4-branch, full exhaust, de-cat etc, but what Reg is your nova? ;)

OR get some Bike throttle bodies, and MegaSquirt.

MS is a DIY ecu..... tricky to find good people to map it though ;)

rods arent "vital" but they are preferrer if your living over 7500 for any real lenght of time lol

Nitrous or xe/let conversion on power to money ratio imo

SBD are the best 16v Vaux N/A tuners. They are the daddies with the XE & small block XEs.

Although a tad extreme they have built 1.6XEs with 250bhp.

www.sbdev.co.uk (http://www.sbdev.co.uk)

The other option is the Mantzel type derestricted inlet & a 4 branch manifold. Mines got Schrick cams too. Never run it though so cant tell you how it goes tbh.

I think they rev quite well on standard rods.
Just a set of ARP bolts.

Or i've got them confused with a different engine.

I would just leave the engine std, until you get the cash/decide what to do.

for pistons it doesnt "really" matter where you get them from as long as they are forged ... ie omega/JE/mahle (to an extent lol)

you jsut need to do things like measure the compression ratio and work out what CR you want then get the head skimmed/block modded/pistons sized to give you what you want and so on...

there is hell of a lot to building a good reliable highish spec engine ;)
the 1.4 8v tuning guide in my sig tells you how to measure the cr and other things to do that may be of relevance
