I managed to kink mine when I fitted my SR clocks, all was good until I pushed the clocks back in, and when they wouldn't go in I pressed harder. I pulled it out, straightened it, refitted it down what I thought to be a better path and it still worked, but made a grinding noise as it span around.
It now takes this path:

So then I bought a replacement one from my local motor factors, but this one is also making a similar-ish noise. I can't work out if the cable is 'flapping' around in there though or if I can just hear it rotating. Should I try to lubricate the cable? If so, what with?
Before making this post I decided to double check if it was the dials or the speedo cable making the noise by going down the road with the speedo cable unplugged from the dash, and its definately the cable. I now regret this move though because the engine didn't turn off when I turned it off, so I had to remove the negative terminal from the battery and stall the car, any ideas what would have caused this?
