Mine does similar thing lol, When i press the brake pedal my sidelights come on, apparently its because one of my rear lights is the wrong type of bulb which sends the circuit haywire lol, try changing any lights that you have recently messed with??

Check the earth connection around the rear clusters, and make sure all the bulbs are fitted right.

yes its part of the system to let you kow your brake lights are ****ed

one of the bulbs will be the wrong type will be a single filliment , not a double like it should be change it and it will be alright

Riggy, what's it supposed to do when your bulbs are out? I would go and remove them and see, if it were dry out.
