I was just chilling browsing the www when i come across this interesting view on our Nova written by a little man names Chris laverty. I also found you could reply with your very own opinion at the bottom of the page!

admitidly, the nova isnt the best car in the world. But to cast every nova driver with a Berburry hat and chav stamp isnt right.

How old is that article though? Yes, Novas were chav chariots of choice about 5 years ago, but now those have long since died out and have been replaced with Saxos, 206s, Civics and Mk4 Escorts. TBH anyone who thinks Novas are king of the chav car world is living in the past!

Agreed. If I'd had my own way two years ago, I'd have bought a Golf GTi Mk2, but I didn't have the money to get a decent one, couldn't insure it and wouldn't have been able to afford the running costs!
And my Nova now owns Golfs on roundabouts.

It truely is a shame the poor Nova got adopted by most of britains effluent population (the comments posted above prove this beyond a doubt, badly spelt containing lots of abuse declaring that ‘their Nova will kill you from a set of traffic lights etc..) when the nova is actually quite a cool little car. Its got old enough now for there not to be too many good examples left (by good example i dont mean carrying 7 tonnes of fiberglass and a sunstrip with the word ‘Barry’ on it) and the shape is starting to be regarded more ‘Retro’ rather than ‘boxy’ lol I totally agree, the brakes were less than perfect, the steering wheel looks like an afterthought, wedged through the firewall at a ludicrous angle, offsetting it from the line of the pedals and drivers seat by almost 3 inches, an unsatiable appetite for rusting, even if kept in a dry garage, and suspension that would feel more at home on a car made of jelly. But start to modify the car (and again, by modify, i dont mean a spoiler bigger than the hoover dam and a front bumper that would shame a snow plough) and you realise the potential the car has over any other small car in my opinion. Nearly everything from the vauxhall range of the same era bolts onto it! A set of 2.0 ATE callipers from a Cavalier GSi and suddenly the Nova stops with a ferociousity a set of 4 pots would be proud of! A not so difficult engine swap, and a 150bhp C20XE can be nestled in the bay in less than a day giving more than enough poke, and a reasonably priced set of dampers with a modest drop, and low and behold, it goes around corners too! Take it even further and remove most of that ‘retro’ interior, and a weight figure of around 700kg is easily achievable. All this stuff can probably be sourced from a scrapyard, and you end up with a little car that is so unbelievably capable on a track day, that very rarely will you be overtaken by anything (which gets the Nova haters extremely wound up and resort to calling you a ‘Chav’ after you post videos of your exploits overtaking Nissan Skylines on Google Video.)
In my opinion, anyone who says Novas are ’****’ are terribly misinformed, and have either only ever driven a standard one, or never driven one at all, and are drawing their assumptions from the huge number of badly modified Barry mobiles there are out there. If you saw a sierra cosworth with a sunstrip wider than runway 3 at Heathrow and a fiberglass bodykit held on with sellotape, you wouldnt automatically think that all cossy drivers were ‘****s’ would you? And I emplore anyone reading this to not take any notice of the badly spelt abuse from the Nova owners who have given the poor thing such a bad rep, and i suggest any disbelievers who think that im talking bollocks, should pop down to Castle Combe at the next action day, and find out for yourself how capable these little cars are.

Nova's will always get slated. Its the way of things. Just smile and in the knowlage that you know better(When they are properly modifyed). Cheap little run-a-bouts as standard though and where never designed as a perfomance car.

Still plenty of chavs running around in ****ty Novas though. Although they have mostly moved on.

I like people that say all Novas are rubbish, because it makes my car look even better when it passes really fast stuff on track:D

Novas are ****en class wee motors and making a real come back in ROI and NI as well. Chavs have moved onto Saxos, Civics and Corollas and now, more than ever the Nova's are making a huge come back.

in fairness they're not the best built cars in the world and most std gear is ****e, but isn't this why we modify cars? I mean, most of GM's bigger boats donate many tuning parts that bolt straight in place. Simple mods make tem corner and stop beautifully. Tuning them is dead easy as well, and everyone here has to agree, they're a cool looking wee motor as well. Folk over here use them for Motorcross, Track days and at the moment they're becoming a very popular wee car to criuse in, and NO Chav examples at te moment either. they are making Crazy money at the moment as well.
The Nova is a cult car that everyone should have had at least once and never ashamed of. Lets face it, Corsa or Nova. Theres no compairing the two.

To be fair to the Nova, when you compare it to the cars it was designed to compete with, i.e. the Renault 5, Fiesta, Uno, 205, it comes off rather well (performance aside).

I love my nova! it never goes wrong, out handles most cars i come up against and it just as fast as newer cars that plod around like civic's corsa's and saxo's even scooby's n evo's.

those of you that say you'd rather have started with a different car would have probably come up with the same problems!

i hate the fact the nova is known a chav mobile because almost everyone that owns a Nova apart from old people drive it like complete ****s and its annoying to have everyone laugh at you bout owing a Nova but i just say well what do you own? and most of them truna round and say a saxo or fiesta or punto, but i know full well mummy and daddy paid for it whereas i didnt so i treat my car with respect (if you know what i mean) i love my car to bits! its the nuts! the best thing about novas is the stigma, just wish id got serious about mine years ago, ill have a newer car 1 day but if/when i get into track days/santa pod RWYB days properly i still wouldnt sell the nova - ill probably crash it first !! ;)
