Hi, just need some advise on oil coolers.

Im going to be building a e16se very soon on t40's, and was wondering if there was much point in getting an oil cooler?

Its not going to be a huge spec, just new cam (what would be adivsed, 240??) and mild head work. Also there will be a 4 branch and stainless steel straight through exhaust.

I thought it would be a good idea to get and oil cooler incase it does get a bit too hot, but are these only really needed for about say 100 degrees?

Cheers:thumb:

250 cam??? iirc: i think standard 1.6 cams are about 250... better off going for 270 minimum.

can't harm running an oil cooler, i was looking into it, if the car is going to be running at high rev's continuously then probably a good idea.

no need for an oil cooler imho.

It shouldnt be running too much at high revs as ill be using an Omex rev limiter/launch control. I guess there isnt a need but ill see how it does when its all finished and running.

well lets face it, with Dan and Jims engines being aobut the lariest spec about here and they get abused where appropriate and they dont ahve coolers and dont suffer problems..

i was also never intending to run an oil cooler on th 1.2 either.....

you can do more harm than good fitting a cooler in an inapproriate desire.
If you only want to add stuff to your spec list, fit it and dont plumb it in lol

Stuart has pretty much summed it up tbh. Mine has covered 50k miles since i rebuilt it, has spent many hours at 7k rpm and the like on trackdays etc (and the car is used to the absolute limit) and i have never even entertained the idea of needing one. If you do fit one it will be purley for bragging rights and to look pretty if i am honest :)

I think the silliest option is the more appropiate

I own the cooler of baxter its a 10row which is required to run 2000CC or UNDER!!

Stuart

yes you can run one on a smaller engine. BUT if there is no need ( and weve never seen the need for one in years of track abuse) then you can do more harm than good, if you use a thermostat then essentially your never going to make use of the cooler so its a waste of weight....

But for some one like me with a engine running over 1500rpm past standard its essenstial but you are right about cold oil dose more harm!!

lol looks like you take your tuning advice from demon tweeks ;)

as said, seen many track cars that rev their tits off under abusive load not needing one... oh hang on real life evidence is irrelevant if its been printed in DT :thumb:
