SR is going on its own, parts will be sold later when the car has 100% gone. I have a waiting list already for some of the bits!

Right, finally got my finger out and have done some important work on the shell today.
Basically one of the main reasons(As well as a lot of work needing done in the house) I have not done a lot on it is due to the roof skin.
When I had the car dipped I had a number of problems with the cowboys called Surface Processing Ltd. They caused some damage as they did to items of Keiths but that got sorted.
The main issue I had was some surface corrosion on the inside of the roof skin. Unfortunately I did not notice it until after Ade painted the car so it could not go back to SPL.
I spoke to the muppet at SPL and he said it was a common thing as an air pocket forms in the roof and although they tilt the shell it does not remove it all! He said they now drill holes in the roof to eliminate which is what happened to Keiths.
Anyway I still had the issue of the area of corrosion in the centre part of the skin so sought advice elsewhere as SPL are a waste of space.
I had a chat with a guy at the Classic Car show this weekend who owns Rustbuster, the same guys I bought the Dinitrol stuff off to cavity wax the shell. He suggested a couple of different products which would clean off the corrosion, passivate it then protect the metal.
I had already removed the surface paint and although the corrosion looked dead as it had gone black and come off with the paint I still wanted it perfect as I want to make sure the shell lasts.
I started with the acid cleaner & passivate to prepare the metal...

This brought the metal back to a perfectly clean state with no corrosion, the stuff is fookin awesome but it burns like hell when you get it on you!
I then used the second stage stuff with puts a protective finish on the metal which readies it for paint...

BTW, the brown round the edge of the roof is the Dinitrol cavity wax.
I put plenty of sheets down to protect the rest of the shell...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/NovaSport/DSCF1508.jpg
Then mixed the Epoxy Mastic paint which dries rock hard like Araldite and seals the surface to stop any further corrosion...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/NovaSport/DSCF1502.jpg
Then set about applying it to the car and me!

Although not the prettiest finish I know I will not have any more problems and it will be covered by the roof lining anyway.
Job done, now need to get the thing finished!
That looks a good job now.
Hope you can push on now and get this finished because this is a Chairmans Cup Winner in waiting without a doubt..

Does it not worry you about other air pockets there potentially could be?
Looks very nice though.

Nowhere else on the shell has the same surface area as the roof skin which is also quite deep and it was only a small area that was affected so the amount of trapped air was minimal. The only other large area is the floor pan which is full of large holes which would prevent air pockets anyway.
The corrosion that came off was black not red so it appeared to be dead rust that had been converted by the treatment. If it had continued to corrode the metal would not have come up as good as it did.
SPL have only had problems with roof skins and nowhere else on the shells they have done, a small hole drilled into the roof now sorts it so it shows how little is trapped.
Good stuff Rich! Get it finished!

F'ing WOW! Really cannot believe that I totally missed this project thread :tard:  . This is probably almost on par with Decs sport build, if not, as good as. All those parts in the garage are crazy man, just makes we wonder how much you have spent in total so far, but swll worth it imo.
Having an absolutly mint shell is fantastic. Loving the quality of the build everything is perfect, shame about the inside of the roof skin.
Really looking forward to seeing this finished
Top work mate :thumb:

Well today the shell got a good airing(On the motorway) and is now at the other end of the country. After six years I finally decided I was never going to get it finished this side of my retirement so it was time for it to go.
It was a bit painfull to see it go but it has gone to another member on here and is in very good hands. I am sure that particular member will reveal all soon but I will wish them all the best in getting it finished.
On another note, I now have an emptyish garage & a complete(Thank god) original Sport all paid for and waiting for collection, watch this space!
shame, but at least you know it has gone to a good home :thumb:
Shame on one note rich, but glad you've still got the other one.

Yes, Novaless for a week. Feels quite good actually! Feels like I am human again and not a freak of nat... err enthusiast.
So now he's going to start selling his stock of bits he no longer needs to the rest of the sport enthusiasts!
Eh Rich!? ;)
