Hope he comes out of this ok.

Proof, if proof were needed though, that driving at 4 times the maximum legal speed limit is dangerous. You have been warned 1.2 Merit owners!

this is gonna sound like im being a cnut but........... why now ?? i mean why should it take someone 'famous' to have an accident for people to start campaigning ? does that mean its alrite for the rest of us to be saved with old gear ??

or are they simply jumping on the bandwagon due to a high profile case ??

Nick
21-09-06, 10:11 PM
I see your point, they use this as an oppertunity to rake in extra funding .

think about it, A well know famous figure. Lots of people are going to suddenly be willing to donate to a cause they'd otherwise, have no knowledge of existing ! - it wouldn't really work if it was "dave the dustbinman from romford"

it's kinda the same principal as news papers reporting only the british deaths in foreign countries. No care what-so-ever for all the other poor buggers that get killed

It's not right, but then nothing really is in this country !

Geth
21-09-06, 10:13 PM
There are things like this happening all over the UK, but we only know about this one because the accident is so high profile. If this had happened to Joe Average it is still quite likely something like that would have been started by close friends or family, but would never have collected so much money because people just wouldn't know about it.

Nick
21-09-06, 10:19 PM
Well, it all goes to a good cause in the end ! Even if the way it's done is a little perversed

Looks like he should be ok, although apparently there's a chance he's suffered brain injury.

Serves him right for selling the Charger lol

Fundraising target: ?25,500.00Donations to date: ?31,667.00
So, no need for me to donate than, ?6,167 over their target - I timed that well lol

No, seriously though, I looked yesterday and their target was only ?7,000 or something like that - they're shifting the goalposts - greedy mofo's.

I post this purely in good taste, as knowing Hammonds sense of humour, he would find it amusing...

I just wish they would stop slating Top Gear as being dangerous and encouraging bad behaviour. Just because somone had and accident! Why don't they have a go at Red Bull events or something for encouraging people to do all sorts of exciting and extreme things. If people want to take risks they're going to do it regardless for their own pleasure.

wisewood

At the end of the day, Richard Hammond works in a job where he drives really fast cars to, and beyond their limits, all day every day. Something was bound to happen sooner or later, just by the law of averages.

It's a lucky escape - i just cant see why they're going to such length to say that the whole thing is being investigated etc. 300mph something went wrong, possibly a puncture, and the thing veered off course - its not designed to go round corners, so it will have flipped over - thats it.

if he out of intensive care it cant have been that bad! they just like to blow things out of proportion.
When it happened i went to the paper shop looked at all the papers layed out and everyone of them had it front page and all said he was doing a different speed.

Nick
22-09-06, 05:43 PM
Well, i don't think you could class any type of "brain injury" as "not that bad" lol

They get you out of IC as soon as possible, and onto a less intensive ward. A friend of mine from uni fell off a building, he was out of intensive care soon, but believe me, he was far from alright.
