Hi

I have a mint condition 1.3 SR (E reg)

its very good nick, 80k miles on it, and had nothing done to it, now got K&N on and Big bore... What i want to know is, could i turbo it?

im sure the engine would be ok with it, and im sure as hell it would go like the nutty nutter...

I would really like some info on this... I wouldnt mind spending upto 800 quid doing this... Thanks

Try phoning Jam Sport and see if they can give you any advice. If it's acceleration you want it might be better fitting twin webbers (if you can fit them to a 1.3?) and going down that road. Turbos are cool, but you can suffer from lag and from what I've heard, it's a lot of hard work getting a turbo to run smoothly on a 1.3. So, at the end of the day if you fit a turbo (which again would be really cool), don't be surprised if you get out-performed by a Nova on twin webbers.

to get a turbo on your 1.3, you'll need to lower the compression big time. A big thick copper head gasket might do the trick, but is no substitution for a pre modded low compression head. The manifold will need modding to fit the turbo, and you should be able to use an intercooler from a cav diesel I think. I have herd of a Renault 5 turbo can be modded for a nova.

As you've done 80k, and the engine is std, I'd strengthen up the bottom end, change the bottom end bearing and get some blue printed - take no shit - pistons. As I haven't done this I could tell u every thing, but this is a start. Your looking at some agg, but you'll be kicking some arse, an surprising a lot of people if you go through with it.

GOOD LUCK!!

Try Turbo Technics at Northampton - they've done most things (01604 705050/764005)I reckon you'll have to throw more than ?800 at it tho'! Let us know how you get on:)

As far as i'm aware you can't turbo the carb novas. As in Courtenay only do 1.6i and 1.4mpi turbo conversions. Not sure though.

R5's are carbed!

i wont do it then... A m8 of mine is selling his R5 GT TURBO for about 800 quid

good condition, GT tuning engine mods, with dump valve etc etc... Zorst is a scorpion i think... i might as well wait a bit and get that... whole turbo'd car for 800 quid compared to 800 quid to fit a turbo MIN...

Cheers guys.
