Both of my smoke alarms just started to make that anoying bleep, and usually they stay on untill the button is pressed, but this time they went for about 5 seconds, then turnt theirselves off, note that the both of the alarms came on and went off at the exact same time, kind of freaked me out.

Any ideas?:confused::tard:

Batteries

Usually they beep when they're low on batteries

I did think that Nick, but why would they go off in sync with eachother? Maybe one after eachother, with a bit of a gap maybe but these were at the same time.

Possibly a ghost thats smoking.

Are you sure they're battery powered, my sis lives in housing association housing and they are all mains powered smoke alarms. Could have been a power spike or something?

batteries, they both bleep because there wired to each other (or should be)

the batteries only act as a back-up in case of a power cut - when were the alarms fitted ??

Dont think theyre wired together, like i said, its a council house! I dunno just seems strange really, in the 4 years we lived here its never done it:tard:

doesnt matter if its a council house or a privatley owned 1

theres more chance of them being wired together in a council house tbh, your house will (probably) of been re-wired at some point

take cover off and see whats behind it. if there a connector with a 1 brow 1 white and 1 blue cable going into it they are mains if theres no wires they are battery. Like Draper says most councils went round and fitted mains alarms about 5 years ago.

Failing that ring up the council and give them sh1t you pay the rent the should do the work.

Smoke alarms aren't wired into the house,Lol.

They just screw on the ceiling and have a Li-ion battery to power them.

Much like the ones you have in Uni halls of residences. A mate who went to Reading had a neigbour who would put socks or a pot noodle pot over his smoke detector so he could have a fag in his room without having to go down 9 floors, or set the ****er off at 3 in the morning, neccessitating a whole building evacuation!

When I was on holiday, Sunday morning we were woken up by a chorus of smoke alarms as everyone on site was making breakfast lol

They must have all been disconnected as Monday morning was nice and quiet :D
