Rite, as im off to uni next week and my car hasn't sold yet, and so I need to store her. Space isn't a problem, but my garage get quite damp, what the best way to store and keep rust away (if poss) and keep mould of the seats? etc? leave the windows open a bit? dehumidifer (sp)?

cheers

Whats the stuff they put in new shoes and bags etc to keep them dry... *something* gel? I remember my dad had a load of that in his Dolomite when he used to keep that in the garage over winter.

Let it rot... Rust is making a comeback I hear! lol

No seriously. A supply of fresh air will help as it will stabilise the damp air. Silica gel might help but you'll need lots it.

Dehumidifier will help too.

Try www.frost.co.uk (http://www.frost.co.uk) they have loadsa stuff for laid up cars.

Don't need that many, my dad had a couple in each footwell and one on each seat, couple in the boot, couple around the engine and all was fine and dandy. Although they were faily large packets, about 10cm square.

Try this site, most of the tips on here are valid points. My dad owns 3 vintage and classic cars and we do most of these things if we are laying one up for the winter. A desiccant sac as they put it is silica gel. We filled half a pillow case with some to put in the boot and back seat of our beasties to ensure they dont rot.

Definitely (sp?) a good buy

lay trays down with a layer of salt. and that gets the water into the trays, but have to keep checkingf them. (i think it was salt anyway)

aye, that works I used to do it at winter when my old fiesta would let water in and get all condensed. You have to change the salt every few days though

Cheers mate, that seem ideal! - cheaper than running a dehumidifer for a year!

So now i've sorted the inside and moisture problems, rust? i've had a look on that frost website but tbh i dont really know what i need? there was some thick black stuff that you paint on but i cant see that doing much more than if i painted it with hammerite?

cheers anyhows

That frost catalogue confuses the hell out of me! They are very understanding and good if you ring them up and tell them what you're doing to the car though, they'll be able to find the best products. Is the black stuff you mean the rust encapsulator?

Right , i'l just hi-jack this thread !

Any tips for storing a classic car outside !? I don't have access to a garage, so i'm going to have to leave my XR2 outside.

I've got a Reletivly expensive Breathable cover with Vents (?60)..

It leaves a ventillation gap around the bottom.

But i presume the best thing to do is to Drive it on a good dry day to blast out the moisture, every now and again ?
