right, sometimes when i change down into a corner and the revs drop quite low and then go to pull away out of it, the car starts to die and a get a back fire then it runs fine again...

i was going to check the ignition timing as it's starting to annoy me.

whats the best way of checking/ how do i go about it?

cheers guys.

Mark the pointer on the crank pulley and the one on the cambelt cover with tip-ex/white paint.

Then start the engine, let it get to normal temp, connect the timing light to plug one, then at idle press the timing light trigger and aim it at the timing marks.
If the timing is correct the marks will be stationary and aligned.

Beaware tho, i set mine with a cheap timing light(Draper) and it was s**t, ran crap. You really need a decent timing light to set it correctly.

What engine is it?

With the ignition timing out, the engine usually runs really flat, no power at all, or it pinks.

You dont normally get the problem you have Chimp.
