Can any of you give me some good and bad points about the above engines please. I'm trying to decide which 1 to get in my next nova.

I was all up 4 the 2.0 16v, but I have been offered a a high compression 2.0 8v with a close ratio f16 gear box.

HELP!!!

Cheers

Dan

The 8 Valvers are `safe` engines so if the cambelt snaps no major damage is done (normally) the are good at delivering low down torque. The 16 valvers give peak power further up the rev range, so have to be driven harder to get the power out of them. They also shit themselves if the cambelt snaps (expensive) there is a modification to the cambelt guide wheels, make sure the engine has had the newer type fitted as the old ones used to crack and fail causing the cambelt to lose tension. (don`t know how common this is nowadays though?) I think you`ll get more BHP out of a 16 valver with the right mods.

16v are more expensive, have to be reved like mad to do any thing and they dont have that much more power than an 8v,personally i always go for 8vs as they get the torque and power down alot quicker.also cheaper and easier to modify

You have to rev like mad to get a valver going????? Have you all lost you marbles?

My valver pulls from feck all revs in any gear with no probs. If you feel lazy you don't need to drop it to pass as it is a very good grunty engine.

What you should be thinking of is "Do I want to go like feck in a straight line or go like feck round the bends?" Because if you like corners get a 1.6 16v as 1.8, 2.0, and valvers don't

Trust me been there, Done that.

As for 16V not having much more than an 8V Well the best 2L 8V had 130 bhp and a valvers has 156 bhp that's 26 bhp straight off and if your 2L 8V is the 115-120 bhp flavour that's getting near 40 bhp extra innit?

Jimbo.

PS. Just remembered 8v are cheap as feck so cheap if you pop summit it's cheaper to swap mota's

im sorry but i totally disagree, from a standing start a 8v will win, even if the the 16v does have 30 brake more. if u look at a typical power curve from a 2l 8v and 16v u will see that the 8v is getting full power while the 16v is still at 3/4 power.8v into second gear, and its starts again, only the 16v is still in first trying to reach max power. Now im not saying that u dont get quicker 16vs(before u all start to call me a twat,as i seem to be 1 of the few who prefer 8v).but the quicker 16s have had shit loads spent on em to make em that quick, where as ,as u say the 8s are dirt cheap.

I remember reading somewhere about the Saxo VTR's & then VTS''s. They said that a good driver could get them to do 0 - 60 in roughly the same time, but the 16v would have loads more after that. I have never had experience with valvers so i am just going on what i read!

My 8v goes well with loads of torque, but the car is light and I take it to the limiter anyway, I would now like the extra 20BHP or so from the valver, Another point is the valver is slightly heavier than the 8v. Drop the 8v while you tune up 16v in the garrage?

I'm not all there, Theres something missing, I'm not all there.

If I did for example what Paul says to do do. Do the 8v and tun up a 16v in the garage. Whould the engine mounts be the same on the 2 engines??

Also with the 8v would I be able to use all the cav engine mounts??

put a big block (1.6/1.8/2.0/2.2) engine in a nova and you have to use modded engine mounts (taz/carquip) from carquip they are ?50+vat

drivers front is modded rear spaced g/box standard.

I shall take on all comers in my standard 16v that has whooped the arse right off two 2L 8v novas one with twin 48's etc, etc.

standing start most smaller engine cars can get away cause of the sheer hard work putting the power down but that's were it starts then ends 'cause that's when you nail them.

You can't argue with the laws of physics more bhp and tourque means you will win that's it simple the only time it's is anything else is when the driver fluffs his start and lights up the rubber.

Jimbo (had this out twice with the 8v boys round here and had to slap there bums to prove it)
