If you have a K&N, clean it out with fairy washing up liquid and water, let it dry, and then put automatic transmission fluid on it. It is basically what K&N cleaner is.

As for the carb, I used 2 cans of 10k boost in mine. It has released a few bhp. It is good stuff!

If its a K&N type it can be taken off & cleaned in petrol and blown out with an airline. If its a card board element out of the standard plastic airfilter holder throw it away and buy a new one. They can be carefully blown out with an airline but this really only works for larger industrial ones in tractors etc where they regularly get choked right up. Car ones get grimed up with oily deposits etc and this is difficult to remove enough crud to make much meaningful difference.
