View Full Version : Vauxhall Paint
Do any of you guys know where i can get hold of enough paint (in a tin) not a spray can, to paint my nova? Im after Steel Grey but cant find it anywhere apart from in crappy little cans.
any decent automotive paint supplier should be able to supply you with a tin of it. Just take the code along with you (get that from the engine bay or Vauxhall).
Just check the yellow pages for your area for a car paint supplier.
You'll need to know what kind you want too (cellulose, 2 pak, water based etc...)
Dont forget lacquer.
I dont know a massive amount about painting, but i have fitted, blended and painted a pair of side skirts (with help from craig ;) )onto my old ****ty 95' Pug 106 which i think look good as a first attempt. I might add the photos if sombodys interested. Il proberly get guned down for workmanship so for now il keep them to myself.
Iv just gone onto restoring my novas rusty bodywork into somthing i can be proud of. The plan is to repaint it as soon as im happy with the shape, even though i swear every other day its got a new dent in it to fill.
I thought that reading the guide that comes with the paint will add to my knowledge of what i know about spray can painting. This time im going to be using an electric spray gun from Halfords. Im not looking for perfection i know that the finish i will get from such limited equipment will be limited.
So im thinking cellulose which i have to add thiners to...right? lol i should really start reading up on this.
Any Tips guys or simular experiences? Join the forum, it all helps sombody

yea mate your right on the thinners part, most of the celly ive painted with has been 50 : 50 (paint : thinners)
i went into spraying without even reading up, got a few runs here and there but nothing that couldnt be sorted by re-prepping it and spraying again (or just rubbing down lightly sometimes) at the moment ive just been doing off the car parts (ie. bumpers, bonnets, grille's ect.) i am yet to tackle a full car, but im soon to be respraying my old nova (now the gf's)
the main thing you need to remember is that the prep work is what makes the finish on the paint, so put the hours in there and as long as you take your time with the top coat everything should be fine and dandy :thumb:
get the pics up of the work youve already done, that way others with more experience can comment on where you could improve :)
cheers mate, sound words. ;)

BTW mate, Vaux steel grey is the colour of my Nova and a good match I found was Rover Gunmetal grey metallic. Could be a good base to start on whne buying a load of the stuff.

you got to upload the photos to an online hosting site such as photobucket (google it) or sommit. the copy and past the link.
Thats gay. The forum should be HTML compatable here so we can insert images via image bank search or via HTML code.

from what i can see on that picture it all looks good fella's,
what in your opinion did you do wrong? (if anything)
were i go wrong sometimes is i get lazy doing the prep work (as i said earlier)
i get half way thru a project (ie. smooth GTE bumper) smooth it half way then get exited and have to spray it to see what the finished item looks like (even though its as ruff as a badgers ****) but i get carried away lol lol
but like everything, practice makes perfect:thumb:
just keep goin till you get it perfect (or at least till ure happy with the outcome)
yeah i can agree with that. The other side of the car dont look so stright on the blended section but i lost interest with it cause its a crappy french peice of smoking junk. I just couldnt be ****d with any more dam sanding. All our work is done by hand and takes ages, especialy the flush boot we have done on my Nova which i couldnt decide if buying an electric sander would be worth while for.

Nah! we'll be men and continue with the manly sanding block lol. It's so nearly perfect anyway man, i dunno why you're worrying!
Take some pics reece, we can get a lil work progress thread going on! :D
