right,

i'm thinking about building up a race engine, and then will drop it into my gte once built. it's going to be a 1.6 8v. are the gte and gsi engines the same in respect that the gsi engine will connect up to the gte loom, etc??

cheers

all of the gte novas used a bosch l3.1 jetronic efi system. gsi novas used a choice of efi systems. GM only modified the bosch system for their rally cars, they actually took off other makes to fit bosch systems. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but there is probably more people about who know how to play with bosch

the gsi engine came with coil pack and a crank sensor and had a slighly lower compression other than those differnences the egnine will swap over yes

Late gsi is as above /\

There were two types of management used on GTE engines tho, early gsi's had the same engine as gte.

so,
if i did buy a gsi engine, will i be able to run it on my gte loom and ignition? ie. will it just bolt straight in and run? which gsi engines are easier?

e16se will bolt straight in no problems at all u might have 2 change the rocker box on the c16se to one which uses a distributor other than that shoud go in

E16SE had either Bosch ECU or in the GSi a siemens. The rocker covers looked different, the GTE being ribbed with '1.6 injection' cast into it. The C16SE was on Rochester Multec management & has a dispack & no AFM.

The differences I found between the Bosch & Siemens engines were that the Siemens one runs an extra sensor & the oil temp is on a sensor too rather than a switch on the Bosch. The GSi engines with the flat top cam belt cover have a belt tensioner aswell as the water pump. So there is a difference in the block for this too.
