F16 gearbox problem

I my 2.0 8v has a 4 speed (i think) F16 box, but it has a 5 speed selector mechanism, the problem is you can select 5th with the lever but there is no gear there? I think the 4 speed boxes were fitted with the 5 speed selector, to save on production costs, with a blanking plug fitted is this true? If so where is it? Can anyone shed anymore light on this, could it be 5th gear is knackered?:-/

You should have a fith gear on the f16, I did, and every other F16 I`ve come across did. I had the same engine as you aswell, did the gearbox come with it?

The engine is out of a carlton, the box must be from a cav? They did do 4 speed F16 boxes on earlier cavs ie MK2 1.6 ect.

yup my mk2 cav (x reg) had a 4 speeder
