The fuel gauge on a Nova I wish to buy does not work I was told it was the sender unit anyone know how much it will cost to fix and is it an easy job. I've looked at several Novas with similar probs is this common on early models then?

common on every nova. Itll cost about ?4 to fix.(get a sender unit froma scrappy)
its very easy to fix, just make sure you got no petrol in tank. then working under car youll see the unit on the under side of the tank towards boot. disconnect the wires and wedge something between slits on sender(make more sense when u see it) then knock it anticlockwise and itll fall out. refit with new gasket.

You might be best taking a multimeter if you are getting one from the scrap yard, an analogue needle type would be best. This will show you if the sender has an even resistance as you move it with no breaks, you can see by looking at the resistive track if it is worn out also (where the small wiper runs along it) Oh and it is a very comon problem. :)
Plese don't let busses pull out.

I had a dodgy fuel gauge, but for once, it actually was the gauge, and not the sender!!
New gauge works fine - LCD dash.
I'm not sure, but I think the sender works by sending a different voltage to the gauge, depending how much fuel is in the tank. Right?
Well, once the tank got to half empty, the gauge would bounce around a bit, then drop to the bottom.
With the LCD dash...it's fine, so maybe it can register the sender's voltage easier?
Just guessing......but anyway, it works, so I'm not bothered!
