head is 425mm long
What?
All OHC cam carriers fit all OHC heads.
You sure its not getting stuck on the dowels on the head? I had that before where the cam carrier wouldn't slide onto the dowels easily.

I think thats a big block 8v head mate, which is why it wont fit the small block cam carrier.

i am f****d off!!!
i have spent a fair bit of money getting this head into a perfect state and now it wont fit!
Do you have a 8v small block inlet manifold?
See if that matches up with the stud locations on the head.

i'm not putting it on ebay, would loose so much money and i need the money back to get another head! i intended on using this in my road rally nova...
I had a very similar problem last year when I bought a 1600 cam and carrier from a scrappy. Got it home and it was to long for the head. Turned out to be a cam for the 1600 big block engine from a cav. I was lucky enough to get my money back as I argued the point that I had told him I was after a cam for a nova engine.
Where did you get the head from?

it was on ebay, and i got offered it as a second chance offer as i lost the original head...
the auction states nova/astra/cav 1.6 8v head, and when i asked him i was told that it was for the nova gte 1.6 8v engine...
You maybe in with a chance. Try and and sort it out with seller first but if that doesn't work out contact ebay. Make sure you keep any e mails that have been sent between you and the seller as evidence.
Sounds like its off a big block 1600SH engine, out a cav.
The seller wasn't really lying tho, it is off a 1.6 8v.
Was lying about the nova gte bit tho,Lol.

he's willing to give a refund, but theres the problem of the money i have spent on it to clean it up so it's mint..
i'm best off selling it, as i will lose less money. will fit 1.6/1.8/2.0 8v big block engines

Big block 1.6 never was in a Nova or GTE guise.
I'd say the seller mis-sold you the goods. Ask/demand for a refund. You are entitled to it.
As said tho, you wont get the money back you spent on getting it cleaned, skimmed etc etc.
Small block head is about 400mm long.

this head is 425mm, and as lltn said, the seller will refund me the money, but not the owrk i've had done, so he'll get a brand new mint head for nothing...
I would try and sell it somebody. As the buyer will make a profit,Lol, as he'll have your newly built, skimmed head to sell.
