does anyone know if you can get fiberglass doors for a nova?
ive seen them for a corsa.
i could do with two new dors for my nova(dreaded rust) and would be interested to know if anyone has seen any fiberglass ones in the past.
or present lol.
vauxhall are looking about 500 quid for two,or i could get 2 for about 50 quid at the local scrappy.
i think the weight savings alone in this area would be more than stripped interior, perspex windows, ect put together. they are bloody heavy considering theyre for a nova.

nova doors arent that heavy, corsa doors are as they have extra bars in for strength. I dont think you'll save that much weight with them maybe a few kg's each. Stripping out the inside with perspex windows will save more weight imo than the fibra glass doors.
Wouldn't you need to keep the door frame to retain rigidity of the door? So you could only bond on a fibreglass skin...

There are relatively big savings to be made going to fibreglass doors. A standard door fully built weighs over 20kgs iirc, and a fibreglass one built with perspex would weigh circa 5kgs. I did have a fibreglass drivers door but sold it as security and quality of fit would have been low. They are not readily available for nova's and the one i picked up had been made for a privateer rallycross bloke.
The next best thing is to fit perspex and remove the window mechanism, then cut out the inner skin/frame from the door and drill the base of the door and edge of the frame :thumb: Obviously this weakens the side-impact protection (what little there is) so I wouldn't do this without a cage with door bars and obviously it's your own risk ;)

nova doors are heavy, about 25 kilos. theres two of them dont forget.
a fiberglass corsa door weighs, as oli says about 5 kilos, therefore a nova one would weigh about the same.
thats a saving of about 40 kilos. significant!
a lot more weight reduction than say a stripped interior.
ive already got a fiberglass bonnet and bootlid. a set of doors would take me one step closer to having the ultimate lightweight, stripped out nova. lol

I reckon a group buy on fibreglass or carbon doors and widened front wings should be arranged. Gotta be ten people interested to make it worth someone making a batch. Or if Colin Smith still has molds maybe he could be persuaded to make another batch. :thumb:

fLuSHSiMoN and PhilGTE from RB have some FG door moulds they bought together last year, i dont know when they plan to use them, but mite worth while keeping an eye out for them.
I also have a FG boot and bonnet and im really after some front wings. no one seems to do them :(

I would be very interested in a pair of fibreglass doors, I've been on the look out to make a few weight saving changes plus they won't rust.
Only thing I would be worried about is the fitment.
Ill be looking into getting some wings done soon.
