if your unit has a red wire and a yellow wire going to it and they are currently connected
Yellow - Yellow
Red - Red
You will need to swap them over so
Yellow - Red
Red - Yellow
This will solve the problem
Or just route an independent power supply from the battery ;)

then it iwll have power going to it the whole time? would that cure the problem jack?
shane
Yup, constant power. Just don't forget to turn it off when you get out the car lol
tbh DalcoLuke's solution was probably simpler, but I've never liked running accessories off the ignition. Much prefer to wire in my own loom for electrical stuff; that way I can put decent gauge cabling in, I know where all the wiring is and its not running off 15+ year old wires lol

TBH a headunit doesn't take much power to run and the nova wiring is fairly chunky. You shouldnt have to many problems running it the way i suggested unless its its a 60w alpine unit in which case taking a new perm live is a good idea. The ignition wire uses next to nothing, it just acts as a turn on.

swapped wires there semms to have done the trick cheers, other proples are sometimes not playing cd's and radio, somtimes will play, hard bumps skips and jumps thats if it doesnt stop completley - havent yet tried cleaning laser yet someone said it could be internal sok absorbers?????????
also very very poor reception lots of interference when you do get a station - the aerial is behind the glove box would this be the problem? can u buy an aerial to stick to windscreen or anything or what does everyone do that removes aerial from nova wing??

On topic tho, i tried a ariel in the rear quarter, and it hardly picks up a signal.
I think halfords sell a small windscreen/rear window aerial.
Put it in the A-pillar? I'm sure some people have used their heated rear windscreen element as well...
move the aerial, lie it in the boot behind the back seats.
not got an aerial on mine thats where mine is.
on the back of the stereo check for a rubber lug which is supposed to help as a shock protector when u hit bumps, also for some reason novas that are lowered usually do have a probelm with skipping cd's

does your ariel work perfectly aye?

I swapped the red and yellow wires to solve the memory problem but this caused problems with my ignition and my alarm...
I think when u swap the wires the ignition becomes the switch for the power for the headunit and because im running 2 amps there is a lot of current running through a certain solenoid in the ignition.. and this kept burning out! The ignition would stay on after you had turned it off and this would cause the alarm to go off randomly.. so to solve this problem i now have to turn my headunit off before turning off the ignition.. its a bitch at first but you get used to doing it.
So if u are running amps i would take this into consideration.. but if not then i shouldnt think it would cause problems.
It might also depend on the headunit?? Ive got a pioneer one.

maybe someone has wired you alarm into the wires for you headunit and now u have swapped them the wires for the alarm are drawing the wrong power and the wrong time
