i bought a nos blydenstein head. took it into the engine shop the other day to get it cleaned and skimmed, slight scratching to face and get the valves re-cut and lapped in.
anyone have an idea of a price?
they're going to ring once they've taking it apart.
cheers guys
sorry but you should have got a price from them when you dropped it off. prices can vary enormously

they're not doing any work without my say so... they're just taking the valves out. i'm guessing the above needs doing from when i examined it.
?28 inc vat i was quoted for just a 8v head skim.
Depends how much they charge for re-lapping the valves etc, i would of really got a price before even handing the head over....
going on the con rates round here you will be looking at about ?100 for a skim +relapping etc.
i was ripped off by a 40+vat skim recently lol

they rang today, ?40 for labour, bead blasting the head and re-lapping and cleaning of valves... and ?30 for the skim...

do it youself and just pay for the skim. its not like working with hydraulic tappets require any skill to set up

???
i couldn't find my valve spring compressor, think i left it in swansea, so let the machine shop do the work. the valves needed cleaning and the head was cleaned...
the only thing that i could have done myself was re-lapping the valves. if i was in swansea, i could have done all of it, and got the skim done for ?20 :(

nature has a terrible way of treating people.
dont use a valve compressor, use a ring spanner and get a friend to pull the colletts out
