How fast will my 1.4 sr go???

Hey up ladz i woz wanderin how fast it will go.. It is the 1990 h reg 1.4 sr not the sri. got a full exhaust system.. Its got 130 on the clock so how fast do u recon???

When will people realise that top end speed aint important, just dangerous! Acceleration is what seperates the boys from the men! Your top end will be dependent on a lot of things, and ya aint gonna get an accurate reading from ya speedo. I`d guess if you were really pushin it with no wind, your accurate speed (not clock) would be about 110mph. Now everybody is gonna come on ere goin well my car goes of the clock! You`ve opened a whole can a worms now. :P

Have you timed the 0-60 and back down from 60 - 0 then you we can say what we think then! ;)

Nova speedos can be out by up to 10% when you get above 70.

I pushed mine to an indicated 120 (prob 110) with a bit to spare. Tip if your after top speed use 4th gear rather than 5th. My car maxed out at an indicated 110 (prob 102) in 5th.

Sorry forgot to say. That's a Mk1 1.4sr with a K&N Bolt On and standard pea-shooter exhaust.

I can get more speed in 5th than 4th, and also when i cange from 4th i get slightyl more power, it carries on pulling for a while.

Same for me. I've only hit that speed once, messing around with kev and rexy on the way back from Crewe. I like my licence the way it is (clean), so my 0-speed limit is more important to me.

indicated 137mph out of my 1.4sr (speedo was 5mph out @ 70mph)

indicated 110mph out of my 1.2 van

indicated 115mph out of my 1.2i

wait till i get my 16v on 17th march, 156mph anyone!!!!

I have a GTE and i only got that to 120 (5th), but i used to have an Uno turbo and i got that to 135. Accelertaion tends to run out about 100 in 4th then picks up a little in 5th. I'm kinda worried mines slow now! :( :( :(

That does sound a little slow. I'm guessing those figures are the indicated ones? as far as the 4th gear faster than 5th i think it's down to the different gearbox used in the sr.

My 1.2 can get 2 an indicated 112 and i know it's not that much off so thats gona be at least 105-110 but i bet i takes alot longer than ur GTE paulrobo

yeah Ive done 120 in my GTE, I felt like there was a some speed left, but I had to let off the throttle, as I was heading towards a roundabout. On the other hand, as 'Paulrobo' said it is quick off the mark and I can keep up with my mates Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC on acceleration, that it is until I hit about 60 !! LOL!! but good fun though! ;)

I get about 115 out of fourth with the engine screamin but I can never get it into fifth fast enough It's abugger!!

I`ve had about 115 (indicated) out of my gte on 17`s, it wasn`t totally flat out either? Best thing to do is get it calibrated (can you do this with a rolling road?)

I can feel a trip to Santa Pod to "run wot u brung" commin on- the only real way to find out short of setting up your own time trial with a few hundred quids worth of timing gear. When my 1.6 is back on the road I might see if I can sort out a session for everyone as I only live 7 miles away.

sr's will go faster in forth than fifth. weird that. whats the point in 5th gear if you can go faster in fourth?

My SRi will do an indicated 122mph @ about 5900rpm. I put it 5th and down i go to 115mp. The car will cruise at 110mph easy. Don't know how far out my clocks is there anyway to test this other than getting another car to do 110 and me follow and see hos fast it says i'm going.

MY car does go faster in 5th than 4th, to an indicated 128ish mph, but I reckon trully thats more like 115mph if ya take off 10%. Manufactures build in a 10% tollerence so that people think they are actually doin say 75 when they are actually doin more like 70. Its just to make thee roads a little safer. Any way why take your car up to those rpm and hold it there, you wouldnt drive for that amount of time in 1st gear at 25-30 mph would ya! Same stresses on the engine! I for one dont normally push up to max!

My old A reg 1.2L only ever got to an indicated 98mph!

BUT, it only read 15 at 30!! - it was a bit buggered, so who knows what the top speed was?
Anyone's guess. That had 14" wheels, fitted with 175-65-14's

My current Antibes with a 1.3 SR engine, and standard wide-ratio gear box, easily gets to an indicated 120.
That's fitted with 15" wheels with 195-45-15's. This speedo actually works - well, as well as they ever work!

I tend to be able to get a higher speed in 5th, as in 4th, it gets so far, then stops accelerating.
I change up to 5th, and I gain another 10 or 15mph.

the reson some of u can get quicker in 4th is coz ur engine hasn't got enough touque 2 pull 2 the max in 5th. but 5th is there so save petrool!!

yeah and thats only the 1.3(standard) that is faster in 4 than 5,the 1.4 will be quicker in 5th.

and by the way MC i regually drive mine in 1st at 15ish,wait for my mate to try and overtake me,then boot it and hit about 35ish in first.
