3 yrs. I had the shunt on way to PV in 2006, so lost most of my 10 years NCB.

Adam

Do you not use ncb on a daily runner then?

Still not taxed, DVLA site wouldnt let me & no sign of the insurance documents from the post man at lunchtime. Grrrrr
If it still hasn't turned up you could always do what I did, phone or email your insurance company and ask them to email you the certificate, print it out and get it taxed. I had no problems at the post office.

Pistol Pete
03-10-08, 01:45 PM
Doing it online you dont physically need the certificate. Surely you can still tax it online, as insurance database should be updated now. Thats a good price on your insurance aswell!

craig green
03-10-08, 02:31 PM
Whilst taxing it online seemed a good idea, theres all the talk of being able to drive it or not whilst the tax disc is in the post. There is a loop hole (in the law about displaying a valid tax disc at all times) where you have a period of grace without the disc but only if the new disc preceeds one that just ran out. Mine doesnt preceed the last disc as thre is nearly a 5 year gap.

Anyhow. Documentation arrived & I have a tax disc in my hand.

Pistol Pete
03-10-08, 02:37 PM
Ah, yeah see your problem! Well if you have said tax disc, happy days!!

Normally I have a carefree attitude towards tax etc but I wasnt in a rush to go anywhere in it & dont fancy a fine or even being pulled tbh.

Sure was mate, nearly texted you a pic I took at a beach carpark in the Bristol Channel, but was low on credit so thought twice.

Thankyou. As for the agenda. There is lots of stuff to sort, mainly suspension & handling issues.

The car feels very vague partly due to the rear being much stiffer & lower than the front I think. Too much of a difference in spring rates?

Engine also struggles to idle at times, generally I can live with it but sometimes it'll stall at junctions.

I had the tracking done on Saturday morning & the torque steer & lack of traction from Friday night is greatly improved but hopefully if I bring the front end down to match the rear ride height, that will improve.

My main issue though is with the fuel filler neck. I can't seem to refill the tank, the filler neck fills up with fuel & is slow to drain off into the tank. My 1st Nova suffered with this but as I had the whole tank & filler assembly off & I refitted the anti syphon device I believe it to be OK. Clearly not though. I have tried poking the ball in the tank filler hole but its not helped.

Still lots to play around with.

I've lost the glovebox from the dashboard so the interior looks awfull.

How come you did not lower the front down then take it for tracking? Just means you have got to pay for the same job twice now.

Also if you poke that ball into the tank you might then suffer with fuel spilling down the side of your car as it acts as a device to stop fuel going back up the filler neck.

I think Craig has coilovers on the back but non-adjustable shocks and springs on the front.

Pretty sure I havent poked the ball into the tank. I just tried to dislodge it with a length of battery cable

As the king of chucking money at Novas Rick, I wouldnt have thought you would flinch at £10 for tracking. The guys will be blagged into checking it again for me FOC anyway as I'll say its not right.

I couldnt get away from the lad at the tyre place, he was amazed how clean it was & taking pics of the underneath on his phone.

Most places offer free tracking re check after 500miles etc.

Adam
06-10-08, 05:08 PM
Do you have a spi speed sender wired up to the ecu Craig?

As for the filling problem, are all the breathers clear and not blocked(especially the one on the filler neck)

craig green
06-10-08, 08:19 PM
Adam yeah I do, though I might re-check the wires. Remind me what it should be or rather what wire goes to the ECU/speed pickup.

The breather pipe on the filler neck is some brand new braided GM fuel hose, so kinks aside it wont be blocked & I certainly would have left it long enough not to be taught or kinked. Another thing to check.......

Adam
06-10-08, 10:17 PM
The sender should have a red/blue that goes to the ecu(you may not have this connected as youve used a gsi engine loom plug?)
And it has a ignition live and earth

What colour wire on the ECU does the red/blue go to do you reckon?

I can breathe a sigh of relief. I found my glovebox this week. I thought I looked everywhere & I couldnt find it, but it turned out I'd left it at my parents house whilst doing some MOT prep back in June.

A quick interior shot. I need to fit the passenger side speaker pod back in. A job for this weekend.

Your not leaving it there?

Adam
11-10-08, 01:10 PM
Interior looks tidy.

It goes to a red/blue at the ecu end.
Thats probably your problem, because youve used the nova gsi wiring plug, which has no wire for a speed sender... So you cant find the wire
Where you cut off the corsa's 9pin black plug, the wire will be there for the speed sender.

I'm hoping to get the fr ride height slammed over the next couple weeks & to get some polybushes in the rear beam. These GM ones I've fitted feel like Blu tac.

Thanks boys, all the encouragement & advice over the last 2 years has been appreciated.

It's a dog to drive & takes some getting used to.
Rear wiper will be replaced with something 'top secret' soon.

I doubt it will get much more use over the winter, but if its dry she can come out to play. I've covered just over 200 miles now with only 1 minor breakdown (pas fuse popped).

Whole list of jobs to sort is growing, so something to get my teeth into over the winter. I've also got hold of some new wheels, watch this space.

Good work Craig, v-impressed! How doe's it compare to your old 8v turbo?

craig green
14-06-09, 05:50 PM
Tbh the old one was setup quite well & was able to be drilled pretty hard. This one has a bigger T25 turbo someone has bought for it. I gather it was still new & unused when I bought it. Currently its boosting too high for what I want, so being cautious, I have to keep backing off to reign the boost pressure in, so still havent experienced wide open throttle. I installed a manual boost controller yesterday, but it hasnt achieved what I wanted, so may need to play with the actuator I reckon.

Quite amusing how I did 300 miles in 3 months on the last engine, but have done nearly 1500 in a month or so with this..:)

I knew it was turbo but thought you had an 8V turbo in there! Top marks dont see many of the small block more valve turbos about!

If its boosting too hard your actuator spring is too hard, there is no way of turning this down, a MBC would only increase the boost, you need a softer actuator spirng :thumb:

It is physically impossible to run less boost than what the actuator does, so unfortunatley as Craig said, he will need a new actuator...
