Hi Guys,

I have a 1.4 SPI and I am fitting a GTE cam, 1.6SPI inlet and a 1.8SPI TB shortly. Should i skim the head (as it has to go off anyway)? I am not a fan of skimming, but it is quite cheap and I am wondering if it would it do more good than damage? And if I am to skim the head how much should I take off?

Thanks!

i've just bought a bldenstein head for my gte which needs skimming to remove small scratches. always a good thing to get done, just check to see if it's flat. slight power gains through increased compressio ratio.

Would the CR get too high if I take of about 0.5 mm off the head? Would i get any noticeable power gains along with the other stuff? Is it worth it?

i have just listed a thread asking by how much will the cr increase by skimming... eg, 1mm skimm will raise by...?!? no luck as yet.

the problem with raising the cr is that on a standard head you can sometimes loose power as the flow is altered. my head is all worked so the increase in compression ratio should cause an increase in power, fingers crossed. although i didn't really have a choice, i needed to remove the scratches.

all i would say, if the head is flat and theres no scratches or pitting then leave it.
