View Full Version : stereo not working
right you ICE boffins!
the stereo was working fine. but i blew the fuse in the main box, thats the fuse for the stereo and instrument panle, well i put a new fuse in, and the instrument panle works fine, so did the stereo, but now the stereo isnt workin. it wont turn on or anything!
what could cause this?
any help apprieciated!
lew
Does the stereo have another in-line fuse, or one within it?
fuse on the stereo.
shorting wires
unit could have blown
fuse behind the stereo is fine! its not old i only baught it bought 2 - 3 months ago and hardly used it due to when i was swapping engines.
wires shorting it out then.
maybe some bare wires touching or even earth wire not connected, or power wire not connected
what colour is the power power? will go and check for any loose wires etc now. and what color will the earth wire be and where will it conect to for the stereo?
if you have an iso leade, lok for red yellowe and black wires,
if its standard vaux wiring your checking.. ill post bak later and go check on my nova
right sorted! after reading you pst bout the power wire i thought id check it! and yes that was a bad conection. my mate then just conected a lenght of wire from the battery to the head unit but to the red wire. it doesnt store anymore. will i need to connect it to the yellow wire?
right then was messing with the stereo today. as when i fixed this problem last time i just ran a wire from the battery and connected it to the red wire into the block that connects to back of the stereo. if you get what i mean.
but it wasnt storeing the memory, so i thought id just connect the wire from the battery to the yellow wire to see if it'd store then. as it used to be wired up red - yellow, yellow - red. but then when i went to test it it just wouldnt come on! so i then put it back to the red wire (how it was before today) and it still wouldnt come on! what the hell is this! or am i just being dumb!
got a long drive on sunday so need my stereo working lol
cheers, lew
Check the fuse is fine on the back of the headunit.
You should have a PERM live for the memory, and a Ignition live.

connect both red and yellow to the batt, this way you should get power and store the settings. just means you have to turn the stereo off before you get out of the car as it wont be on the ignition :)
right iv decided i want to get rid of the wire from the battery, i aint to keen on it lol
also could it be down to the blocks that connect to the stereo and the loom, as this part has been in a couple of cars is pretty old and has been bashed around and crushed into a mk1 dash.
i never fitted the new one when i fitted the stereo as i didnt need to etc, but you think i should? iv only got tomorow after work to get it sorted!

On the loom there should be a yellow wire, which should go to the ignition. and a red wire, which goes to the battery. if theyre fine then check then replace the fuses in both (i had a fuse in mine that looked fine but turns out it was duff.) if that still doesnt work check the main fuse box again. i had all sorts of problems with my old head unit, one minute it worked but the intereor light didnt, then the light did but the ignition lights didnt ect.ect. but i got there in the end (more by luck than judgment though i think) lol
