hi im a new member here from northern ireland.i hav a 1.2i expression in the garage.i no its the slowest model so i removed the engine, driveshafts etc.i was wonderin wot r the advantages in fittin a corsa 16v unit over a gte/gsi unit? they both claim 100hp.i no the gte/gsi is a straightforward swap.what about the corsa unit? same mounts, driveshafts etc? any info would be appreciated as theres a few corsa sports at the local scrappy and the older units are quite hard to come across. or are they?what about older 8v astras?same engine? cheers all

pretty much same fitting wise. If your leaving it standard i would personally go for the 8v but the if not i would go for the 16v as there is some very easy power to be had out of this engine an good power gains.

would def be looking into tuning it, i.e.head work, cams, exhaust etc.
is this not more expensive on the 16v?

are they really that similar? would i need custom mounts or driveshafts?

i like the sound of a 1.6 16v nova. higher revving right?with the right mods.

right first thing on my list for the 16v would be another style of inlet manifold, this is where the power is restricted on these engines, should be able ot easily be able to get 120ish bhp with a suitable intake an that ect...

More work to fit the 16v.
Need to mod exhaust etc.

you can get hold of 16v zorst system easy enough, engine mounts are the same if you use a Nova GSI gear box. you can use GSi GTE drive shafts, if you have the money SBD throttle bodies and ECu will give you 165bhp or something arounf that, My mate who works for them was say i think "35% increase on an XE with the throttle bodies and a 45% on the cosa lump dur to the naff inlet system, T40s may be a idea but not sure if they will like 16v or worth the hassel.

I think you also need to do something to mod the alternator to get it to fit.

I'd go for the 16v lump. Even the 1.4 16v are quite good fun. Newer engines so potentially more reliable although the old vaux 8v are fairly bomb proof and will run and run and run.

Personally if I was gonna mod a small block 16v lump I would turbo it.
