how would you know if your head gasket was on its way out is there any sure signs its going to go e.g tickover ,lacking, wont pick up properley not sure please need help:confused:

you could try a compression check? it could missfire at times, water and oil mixing in your coolant tank, if anything all of these signs would at there worst when its hot.

Are you losing any water?
Take off the expansion cap after a run (careful of the steam and ****, might be worth letting it cool a little) and sniff for exhaust fumes.

Might be worth popping to a local garage and asking them to do a compression test.

You can also have something called a block test done. Expansion tank fumes can be checked to see if they contain exhaust gases. Also can be checked with mot emissions probe. Also remove plugs and check for fouling. Pressurisd coolant hoses a dead giveaway too.

and when you take the expansion cap of is it more pressurise than normal?
Oil cap is it like mayo?
