Apologies if its running a bit slow, servers being gay this evening, should be ok tomorrow :thumb:
Cheers to all NLers who turned up, was a cracking day out!
Ill have a vid of me and Dar having a play later on
Ill have a vid of me and Dar having sex later on
:gay::gay:

Thats because i ****ed the link up lol. Fixed it now!
Heres a vid, taken from Dars car!
www.nt-r.co.uk/videos/DarBT.wmv (http://www.nt-r.co.uk/videos/DarBT.wmv) (it cuts out in places due to a loose connection Dar suffered on his camera, but bear with it)
It must be noted that the track was rapidly drying, and I was on cut slicks whereas dar still had his rapidly dissintergrating wets on. This gives you some indication of just how quick he is :-)
looks like i missed out on a good day!
good pics and good video.
If you look closely at the video you can see my white SR parked on the side of the track.
Well... not parked, but it sure as hell felt like when this thing flew past me lol
Shame about the loose connection but still a great vid mate. :thumb:
Here is a quick incar vid thanks to dar again :D
An example that big power isnt essential if the car works well so anyone can have great fun even if they dont have the most powerful car. It also shows that there is no competitive driving and no shame in letting others by (track manners at their best courtesey of dar :thumb: )......

Another one of my vids. Only a little one this, but it shows how slippery it was in the morning.

power to weight ratio :thumb:
dars car does rev like a batch tho
looks like you all had a good day
shane
power to weight??? hello?? lol lol
talking between us me and dar reckon the cars weigh around the same give or take, so power to weight is still hugely in his favour (esp as 60bhp head start lol).
It was all down to how the cars were setup and handled the style of circuit. Dar decided to stay with his yoko a539's where as i opted to fit my intermediates. Even tho less power and poorer susp options, with the car set how i like it and running the right tyres it went to show power is nothing if the package isnt complete.
Yup - Spot on :thumb:
I have a big advantage in the power to weight ratio stakes. However Llandow is not a big power circuit so the advantage that it gives you is minimized.
It?s a very good demonstration of you don?t need lots of power to be fast OR to pass more powerful cars. A better setup is worth lots of horse power.
When I say better setup I mainly mean those lovely inters (although Dans car is very well suited and setup for Llandow so is more than likely setup a bit better as well).

i know what you mean
only thing i was thinking on was redtop vs 1600 8v
although its nice to have a **** load of power, alwasy best to sort out suspension and brakes before searching for power as cant really be used to good effect without good handling and stoppig oower

Was a great day and it was fun in the wet!
No pics of my car in there though!:(
Will - What does your car look like? I have a few piccys.
i thinks its more about weight distribution that power to weight, the 2.0 16v is a considerable more weight hanging over the front than the 1.6 8v, from the video, dans car, for the short time you can see him, seams to go into the corners more smoothly, wereas dar was really pusshing it to turn into the corners. just my opinion anyway
top quality tho
Dar,
I'm looking for some piccies of my car on track, the black and white SR. If you have any could e mail them to me?
Cheers
I have one, but its not on track at the time. Its parked up with the bonnet open. If you want it PM me you email address.
well kept there dar. what sort of speed was that slide at?
:thumb: Thanks - Good question but im not sure. I was just changing up in to 3rd, at a rough gestimate id say 50ish.
it wasnt a slide, it was Dan attempting a pit manuver lol
I do believe were starting to convince the doubters that a Valver WILL handle when set up properly.
videos look brilliant, it makes me want to get mine done (read started) even more now !!

Never lol
I've just realised why i didn't completely loose Dar through the corners, my front shockers were set to fully soft
I was fairly impressed with Dar's corner speeds although watching the vids he does seem to need a lot of lock lol

Fantastic stuff!!
This is what its all about for me.... fibreglass bumper boys go home :D
Soooo looking forward to using mine! Altho i just hope my driving skills are up to the car lol
Well done guys :D

lol, theres always an excuse isnt there! I agree that a small block is the better choice for small tracks like that, but im feeling cocky this evening... SO...
Ive got a gauntlet for you Oli, a friendly punt if you will..
I have a year until next years llandow. If I can build a 2.0 that keeps with you around there with your car running perfectly, i win. if you lose me, you win.
The stakes? If I win, you and all the other puny small block owners finally except that its possible to build a 2.0 Nova that handles, and if you win, ill let all your tyres down afterwards!
Deal? :D
Oh and before anyone says it, im NOT challenging him to a race, im challenging myself to keep up with him OK!
can i join in lee? ;) or maybe you couldnt afford it (private joke lol )

Definately!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
I'll make sure I bring a compressor to pump my tyres up afterwards :thumb:
Would like to see that!

If you like we can make it a double-header. To give your lardy big block a chance, we could have a straight line race too. How's about a santa pod run what ya brung? Do you fancy it, Quarter King? lol lol lol
There you go Will :-

Llandow really does pander to a grippier car. That has everything to do with tyre choice. Benji proved that big style last year when he ran his 1400 on slicks.
If I wanted to not get over taken or I just wanted to pass everything I could have easily put on the slicks I had with me and job done. But it was a fun day and also non competitive. So I decided to keep on the old odd road tyres that I just wanted to wear down. Having odd tyres front and rear does not help a cars handling much. So it wasn't going that bad.
I also put a bit of rake on the car that just didn't work like it should of, so that will be changed back. But hey it was a p1ss about and setup day. Turned in to more of a p1ss about day to be honest.
The best way to compare two cars is to sprint them. You have professional timing gear and no other cars on track. Then you can see what car is faster. Also I would choose a bigger track. Just following someone around a track is no comparison.

agree with 90% of the above apart from the benjii bit, I distinctly remember him asking me how i'd managed to round the outside of him and asking me what tyres i was running and what suspension. He wasn't impressed when i said A539's and some old springs and dampers lol

I agree to an extent, but here comes the usual result of things getting too serious!
I purely said that I rekon i could get my car to keep up with Oli round llandow next year, im not interested in wether its not a true comparison, or wether to use a bigger track (which to be honest would give me an advantage)
The main reason I said it is to make sure i keep my finger out of my **** and build the car that the Blue one should have been all along. if I lose, i dont care, because i get to let his tyres down :p

HHHmmmmm, some interesting comments guys!!
Not all of you know me but I was at Llandow on Monday and actually did this trackday last Year in My 1400 Nova Rally car which I've since sold.
I had the majority of You on my stopwatch in the afternoon when it was dry and to be fair it was when you were all on clear tracks so to speak..
Dan's average time was a little over 1 second a lap quicker than the next fastest person/car so to speak. It's not all about power guys!!
Myself and friends use Llandow regularly to test our rally cars after upgrades/rebuilds etc and have had some good and bad times there. Anyone thinking of doing it next year should make a concerted effort to make it..
Oh Yeah, put me down for that Big block V's small block challenge!!!!!! lol

Hey Russ.... long time no speak!
The track i guess is suited to less power/better handling. However....
would be a different story at somewhere like Donnington.

Now this is where I say........... No!!!
I did three track days in My nova, Silverstone GP circuit, Castle Combe and Llandow. Silverstone and Combe were 15 minute sessions and llandow as open pit.
At combe and Silverstone I prob had the least amount of power out of all the cars on track, but at combe I lapped everything in both the 15 minute sessions I did, and almost did the same at Silverstone!!

Im afraid you cant take part in said grudge match my friend, although im fairly confident of building a competitive car, i cant however accumulate enough talent to compete with you :-) ive a feeling you would own me whatever the feck you were driving lol

You are making Me blush now!!!
My point is that it's not all about power, as Dan has said with any competition/track day/sprint car it's all in the set up of the car. Anyone that was at any of the above trackdays will bare testament to what I have said.
I am just at the early stages of building my replacement for the Nova, I have so far spent a considerable amount on Brakes, gearbox and suspension. Not 1 pence has been spent on power, that is the last thing I'll be spending money on. But take it from Me there was at least 4 cars at Llandow on Monday which have considerable more than I intend having.

Yes that trip out in your nova last year was something else russ ! Look forward to a trip in the new project when done. :)
Was a good day all round. spirit was good. no dick heads and tbh everyone was very well behaved on track. Hopefully i can join in the fun next year perhaps. Just couldnt get the mot i needed in time to get mine sorted for this year.
As for big block and small block. Pros and cons. arguement can go on all day tbh. Gearing is essential. No matter what power. If your pulling 140mph top end then your not going to be quick at llandow. Good fd ratio and gear ratio is a must. followed by a nice diff. and then a good suspension setup. Setup can count for alot of bhp in my eyes. Just my thoughts.
but big blocks will have advantages on larger tracks with more straights. A chance to use all that power .
Anyhow good day. good to meet a few people. and well done to everyone.
cheers
chris
