Hi guys,

Does anyone know whether the mark 2 astra came with the 1600sv engine?

Cheers

Isn't the 16SV only around 80ish bhp?

82bhp iirc but they are very torquey everyone hates the engine but I like mine,

I have stuck a 4 branch on mine and had it rr set up and it made 96bhp and 108ft/lbs, while it was burning 4 litres of oil per tank of optimax before I rebuilt it, now rebuilt and 10000miles later and its still fine and I am having a power-run this afternoon so I will post the new results.

Nice. A Nova gte cyl head will up the CR & has bigger valves IIRC.

Cheap & easy power if you find a cheap head. Ive got a flowed & ported big valve one but not so cheap...

But it is hard to get a single carb manifold for the GTE head I would have to fabricate one and I cant have 40s because I need it to be reasonable on juice

twin 40's can be as good and a single carb on fuel, if set up good, and dont drive with your foot to the floor all the time

eg...

my 2.0, is just as good as my 1.4 sri, even though it has 600cc more and 8 more valves

Webbers or any other twin setup can be excellent if there set up on rollers and servised well? Sell control is the problem when drivin a car with webbers!!

14bhp from a 4branch?

You could make a carb inlet to fit a round port head.

The GTE head would lower CR, but increase power because of massive ports and valves compared to square port heads.

Went to the rr this afternoon and made the same as last time, I wasnt happy lol, as it seems much more powerful than before although it was 22 degrees today and 6 degrees when I had it done in the winter so it may be a contributing factor.

k&n, rr set up, taken the choke off as it was impeding air flow, 4 branch, full exhaust just backbox "long live",

I know it sounds chavvy but my mate has 2 sri's both standard and my car eats them both.

I am not doing anything else to it now just saving hard, by christmas I hope to have a glanza V! :D

What carb are you using 32/34 weber?

What did you replace, just the piston rings? I've seen quite a few engines with worn rings make about normal power, so i wouldn't of expected a big gain.

No still with the pierburg 2e,

Well it was burning loads of oil so I should think it would make more power when not burning any.

Yeah just the rings, the bores were fine and the pistons didnt need repalcing, no excess play there

Get a 32/34 weber on there!

I am looking at one on ebay he doesnt know anything about it and its listed badly so it will go for cheap,

If I can get it for cheap enough it will be mine!
