Hes scared incase the topic rots away, cut out the rsut and weld in a plate, bet left to the professionals

could i do it with wire mesh and fibre glass or filler

i cant fit a welder in there to weld a plate on it

just cut it out and weld a patch in with mig, there is plenty of room to get a mig gun into the battery tray area!
if the holes not to big just take it back to good metal, rust treat it, prime it and do as you say with the mesh and glass filler.

i welded my battery tray myself, never realy welded before. worked fine good weld aswell. then just seem sealer it. that stuff is wicked!
