having recently bought a gsi and twin fortys, i was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of fuel economy i could expect. i just need a rough figure cos i do a lot of motorway miles (aberdeen to falkirk twice a week )and think its going to be a bitty more expensive than my 1200 nove! i havnt got the engine in a good shell yet so i cant work it out and i dont want to swap engines over to find i cant afford it please enlighten me cos having heard it running and potterd about my drive im itching to get it on the road.
any help?

Fuel consumption wont be good, it could be terrible but it could not be that much worse than a standard gsi depending on how well the carbs are set up.

I think you can expect 25mpg tops

I think it was Dan that said you can easily get around 30ish MPG(same as normal) on the motorway etc.

do you think? what sort of mileage do you get with a standard gsi

depends how you drive and how well they were setup etc, but yes dan was easily getting over 30mpg with his (even i managed it lol)
id assume that a tired old gte/gsi would do about 30-35mpg tbh

Yup, apparently GSi is ~38mpg. you'd probably find that you could almost attain that if you have a feather foot with T40s, difference being if you rant the carbs the fuel economy would drop lower than it would with the std injection.

thats not too bad i suppose, i take it this is greatly reduced when you leave the motorway or drive about the town. i could always put the injection back on but it means when puting it in my 1.2 nova shell il need to put the loom in too that id rather avoid because this was just going to be temporary untill i get a proper shell and do it right. im mabee just as well keepin the carbs on it then, that is good news.

put it this way. due to the way i had to rant the **** off my 1.2 on the motorway a 1.6 T40 will do better mpg.
also for cold runs the T40's are better (ish). its all down to how you drive. but if your that worried about fuel consumption then stick with the 1.2 and dont carb it.....

thats what i thought the 1200 is only good on the motorway if you sit at like 65, because its a 4 speed you have to rev the balls off it after 75- 80 then labours like a basterd up the hills, **** the 1.2, 1600 it is! cheers for the help

Speed limit is 70, so you dont need rev the engine anymore than it takes to get to 70 :plol

I manage about 35mpg with my 1200, even in town driving.

i know what the speed limit is but its easily done in my 1.2 you must understand lol. i get like 43 mpg and my pal gets even better with his 5 speed but its how fast you get to 70 thats the point

my sr is good on petty with a feather foot but i can easliy rinse 10-15 quid on a trip to college on a 44 mile round trip
