Right i seen these:
http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/vauxhall/items-sale/271483-suzuki-gsxr1000-throttle-bodys.html

On Migweb and thought i should buy them BUT have no decent engine to put them onto, only a 1.2spi:(, so do you think i should do it, as it will be different although there wont be many gains, (will have mild headwork done - may need 1.2 carb head or another one anyway), and what else would be needed and at what cost?
Is it easy?
Is it worht it???

I just need to know if i should buy these really as they are there and i have the money, was looking to buy a 1.4 sr engine but cant find one and besides even if i did i could still swap these over right???

As much info needed as possible!

Thank you:thumb:

If you want them, buy them, but i wouldnt bother for a 1.2.

The 8 valvers (from what i read on here), seem to do better with carbs.

could be worth a laugh

Bearing in mind im also considering the insurance side of things anyway, even if i was to put them on another engine it would only be a 1.2, i think im gonna give this a try:D

So far i have considered:

Megasquirt ECU
Facet pump and fuel reg
Maybe another head
Mild head work
Cams
4-1 exhuast
New inlet (obviously)

One other thing i was wondering about is the ignition, i was reading on megasquirt although it was not clear, would i need to change anything for the ignition from my previous engine (1.2spi)

Another thing is i will be changing the box

OMG, another Stuart! If you get your skates on and build a big power 1.2 by, lets say Christmas, you might just beat him to it! lol

Muhahahahaha! we shall see stuart!:p

imho TB's on a gm 8v engine are a complete waste of time as you will have to build the bottom end to take about 10K as thats where you will start to make half decent power lol.

tbh db, if you build a 1.2 that breaks 100bhp by the time the sun goes cold you'll beat me

Lol well im not making a competition but we'll see how it goes for future reference to lower engines on tb's ill even let you have a go up pv next year if you like! Lol thats even if i get the car into the garage!

get hold of a 1.2 16V (12XE) from a corsa and TB that.... tuning bits will be the same as the 1.4/1.6 stuff (cams, exhaust etc) plus you can transfer them to a large bottom end like a 1.4/1.6 when your bored of the 1.2 and you'll easily have a 200bhp capable 1600 too...

Thanks for that stu:thumb:

Yeh i think ill put them on my 1.2 spi for the minute as i definatly wont be able to insure a 16v, but i will bear that in mind for the future when i am able to insure something else, but for now i think ill use it with 1.2spi, and ill be using a megasquirt (hehe!) mapable ecu anyway so ill be able to transfer the majority of parts to most engines, but for now we'll have to see what effects it will have on a crappy 1.2.

P.S. good luck with the turbo project stuart!:thumb:

have your sourced and made the MS yet? if not then gis a shout over pm and ill see what i can do ;)

with the 1.2 8v route id deffo recomend getting the 1.6 gte/gsi head and have a bit skimmed off to increase the CR (look in my sig at the 1.4 tuning guide for the method to measure)

Thank you very much for you help stuart finding it useful!

What gains will have have from using a 1.6 gsi/gte head though? could i use and other head as its a bit hard to find and i see a few modified heads on ebay, are they any good?

Ive only had a quick look on the MS website for the ecu although the chap whos selling me theTB's said that i could get one for around 200 pounds with parts needed?

I know 1.4sri heads are good for carb setup but would it be any good with a 1.2 bottom end?

Stuart
31-07-06, 02:44 PM
the 1.4sri head is 99% the same as the 1.6 mpi head tbh... the 1400 one will still need a skim.
?200 is a really really cheap price for MS tbh esp as that is with the "poor" design version (ive improved it a little in places but hope to fully tart it up and make it cheaper)

Ok well now i got the head and exhuast sorted stu, thanks alot for your help i added you to my msn to make things easier as you seem to be very helpful, although it is your choice to accept, im not quite as anoying as gaskell tho!lol

Yeh so head and exhuast is sorted now i need:

Inlet manifold
Ecu
Ignition?? Im not too sure how it will work, guessing the ecu will controll this apposed to using t40's?
And like you said need to skim the head (how much will that cost? 60 quid?) Theres a place about half a mile from me that does it, my best buddies cousin works there so might be able to ask a favour hopefully! OR cheap anyway.

Was thinking about getting a half decent cam for the head aswell, and will be replacing the rings on the pistons, thought it may aswell be worth a slight rebuild as its done 95000 miles, and its only a 5 min job.

My main concern now is the ignition although im convinced its ECU controlled?

Could you not transfer the internals with a 1.3 crank & rods into the block you have and have a killer spec 1400 + the mods mentioned?

db_1.2
31-07-06, 03:44 PM
Have you got the parts then craig and i will? Lol as your near to me, i would just use a 1.4 block but i cant find one close enough, and you have a very good point, and if this all goes well (cant see why it wont) i will use al the parts on a bigger engine, probably a 1.4 16v in the far future make a nice little rally car i think:p
