I just did a rather large wheelspin and seem to have left the engine (1.3sr) at full revs for a second or so, now the oil pressure gauge is going all over the place and from 2500 revs now it is way off the end of the scale about 3 quarters of the way round.
anyone had a similar problem or know what could be wrong as it doesn't look to good although it sounds okay.

Located at the back left hand side bottom of the engine, threaded into the block with one wire coming off. They aint expensive if you can find a working used one.

2 wires (switch for light and variable for gauge)

is it still okay to drive. does it only show the pressure or is it more important?

It`ll be fine to drive, just an indicator for low oipressure problems.

The actual unit's not just a sender unit though is it?
I though it was the oil-pressure regulator valve?
