View Full Version : What to do with this 1400 engine,Lol

As above.

Cant decide. lol
Its got a weber 32/34 already fitted, obviously have mechanical fuel pump, and i have an adjustable regulator nicked off a old escort) so thats an option, but i hate carbs,Lol.

1*Leave Weber 32/34 fitted, but fit a 1300 head, and 1300 inlet, along with 4-1 manifold, 14nv cam and dizzy/coil setup.
Any ideas on power?

2*Fit 14se head, modify an inlet to fit a SPI throttle body, and run that with SR cam, 4-1 manifold. Probably around 85bhp ish,and cheapish insurance.

3*Fit 14se head, and run SRi injection, dispak, with sr cam,4-1 manifold, probably around 90bhp, but would need wiring for the loom etc, and a big jump on insurance(grp 3 spin, to grp 7 Sri.)

4*Get a 14se head, wait a a while to find some cheap(if thats possible) T40s, gte t40 inlet, Sr cam, 4-1 manifold. Probably around 95bhp again(standard cam letting it down)

Help me choose, i dont really want to go with carb(s), because having a manual choke etc, and getting them setup, seems like too much hassle/cost to me.
Spi involves bodging an inlet
Mpi involves wiring ecu etc, and cost of buying Mpi parts(need change pump etc)

at the end of the day its down to what you most want, would like to have, bhp you would be happy with, and how muc your willing to dish out on insurance.

If its something your only doing for the meen time and your planning bigger things, then pobably comromise a bit of power for whatevers going to be the easiest to do and least hassle. Otherwise if its something your doing to kep then spend the time getting what you want, do it right and have good results at the end of it, whilst thinking about insurance to lol

also ad i might add that if you decide not to use the carb and if its in good condition i would buy it off you if you like.

you dont need a choke mate i just give mine few pumps in the mornin hold it at 2.5k for ten secs nb she settles n idles on her own then. goes like a scalded cat though. id t40 it with a relatively lary cam and decent exhaust, should giver best power results then :thumb:

Ok, cheers shane.
Weber might be for sale if i dont use it, it looks fine, all linkage moves, both chokes open etc.

I dont really want to spend much,Lol. Got MOT and stuff coming up in a few months time.

Might just put it in, and leave it on spi, standard spi head etc.

ANDYRACER

oh i am!! :D

only down side is i havent got 5th gear yet but meh it gets to a 100 so quick and it wants to just keep on going and thats in 4th.

as for the crane try a local buisness, i went to one round the corner was loads cheaper than hss.

Adam

Meh, funk that, i want the least effort method.

Lew, theres not many local businesses round here that hire stuff out, only like HSS etc.

SRlew
27-07-06, 05:10 PM
lol people kept saying to me do it by putting it in from below, but i done mine with a crane and dropped it in. needed someone to move the engine around while i lifted it though, but i done the rest by myself.

saying that though just looking throught the HSS book. ?24.50 for a day for the crane or ?30.63 for the weekend so in a way that isnt too bad, i thought it was going to be loads more.

Adam
27-07-06, 05:18 PM
Ye, i'll have to hire one out over one weekend

+ the ?200 up front deposit:roll:

SRlew
27-07-06, 05:28 PM
is it actually ?200!!??

i didnt use HSS and they didnt tell me how much a deposit was etc.

General Baxter
27-07-06, 05:31 PM
its in the small print, i know its very very high i wanted a car trailer, ?40 per day and ?300 upfront deposit :(

Adam
27-07-06, 07:10 PM
So?
You get the deposit back.

mikey14sr
27-07-06, 08:08 PM
I think the point is if you had ?200 to use as a deposit why not just buy one for ?160?

Adam
27-07-06, 08:10 PM
Hmm, point taken :) Lol

Stuart
27-07-06, 09:21 PM
they took ?200 from my account, then once returned they refunded the card with ?200 - hire costs...

if you do it on a friday/saturday morning the money "technically" wont leave your account till monday by which time theyve done the refund ;)

Adam
28-07-06, 12:16 AM
Hmm, i might consider buying one, knowing my luck i'll break theirs and loose ?200,Lol.

Ste L
28-07-06, 11:21 AM
run it on MPI adam, much better than the spi..

use the corsa/astra mpi loom, much easier to wire in, than using the nova one too ;)

Adam
28-07-06, 01:28 PM
Its going on SPI for the minute, as i have everything to do a spi, should be around 85bhp after a few inlet mods etc. :)

Plus the SPI loom will plug in with it being SPI originally.

SRlew
28-07-06, 07:54 PM
yer i was going to just buy one as it'd defanantly come in handy etc.

Bit of an update, got all the bits together now.

Just waiting on the head arriving.
Then i can bolt everything together and fit it.

I starting polishing the cam carrier today, gave up tho, couldn't get a good shine, so i've primed it for painting silver :) Lol
