Get some mates to push down on the bonnet whilst you pull the bonnet release.

Assuming its just stuck, and the cable isn't broken.

yep, my old Nova used to always be like this, just push down on the bonnet above the catch and hopefully should do the trick, how slack is ya release cable?

it dosent feel like its snapped but pulls up under the dash as far as it can and does nothing.
if it is snapped do i just use a screwdriver and push the catch open

If it feels loose then the cable has snapped.
You can move the clip along with a screwdriver.

Its a bit hard to get to tho, might be best trying from underneath the car.
