Looking at the bottom pulley & alternator.

Do I need to change the belt setup, as the power steering pump is now absent & its got the multigroove belt pulleys on.

Q. I think I need the bottom pulley from a late Nova SRi/GSi C16Se etc, can I just swap the pulley on the alternator? Will it line up or does it need to be spaced?

Q. Do I retain the Corsa alternator & bracket? Or do I need the Nova's bracket in order to adjust the alt when the regular pulley is put on? Or fit usual Nova GTE alternator?

i've used the nova GSI/SRi bottom pulley and a Nova SR alternator with upper and lower brackets had to get a slightly longer fan belt than the GSI one though (its about 2 inches longer)

change the alternator before puttin in the car, is a pain in the **** otherswise

Nice.

Just gotta find a pulley now & I sold a spare rebuilt alternator a couple months back.
Thanfully Ive got a GTE/GSi 8v alternator bracket with all new bushes on it here.

I used the standard corsa bottom pulley, with corsa alternator. I had to space the bottom alternator mount down about an inch using a home made bracket, and i made a new top mount. That was done to clear the throttle bodies tho.
If you use the standard corsa pulleys and alternator, just measure round them once fitted and pop to halfrauds for a multi-vee belt :thumb:

I think Baxter is using the standard corsa alternator and bottom pulley on his, he just went halfords and found a belt that happened to be the size he needed.

Use all the origional Corsa Stuff, although you will need to take the bottom pulley off to fit it, easily refitted from under the wheel arch. You'll need the altinator bracket from a MPi Astra 8v and the Belts off a 1600 Astra 16v without power steering. Then thats pretty much that.

i was worried about the engine rocking and nocking on the alt, but theres no chance of that as theres a 2cm gap allround

+ my engine mounts a solid, the car rocks insted, when you rock the engine

With the gap that baxter showed me on his, with standard mounts, it would hit the chassis leg i'd say.

nar, i can stick my hand between the pully and leg :)

iv put my battery on charge so i can get a better photo, but dont worry it fits and works fine lol

Yeah, the Corsa Belt will fit, without Power steering. The Bottom Pulley will need removing or you'll be stuck with this: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/Dods1/Pic715.jpg
You'll have wheels and drives out of the car anyway, so refit the pulley from behind the wheel and you're sorted.

Also, please note, its best to fit a new Cam Belt Before fitting the engine as its bollox to fit in the car.

Im sure kev had problems with this when he fitted his engine. And i remember him taking my gte alternator pullly off and steeling it. Im sure that the allternator pully hit the chassis leg. He also had solid mounts. Just to let you know.

Ye he did.
He swapped the pulley for a single V one to clear the chassis leg.

If you want to keep the corsa poly belt thing, you'll have to do the chassis leg mod like on a XE.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like there is no definitive answer & seeing as Ive found a C16SE trigger wheel at the breakers & Ive got a nice GTE alt bracket with all new bushes in. I might aswell use the old style belt.

Out of interest, how are you tensioning the belt Baxter?

Isn't it a different shape? Think the Astra 1400 MPI item is the one to have.
