Right the mission for today was to go down to pod an try and break into the 11 seconds now that ive changed a lot of things an upped the power quite a lot, but gay corsa had other plans.
I was going down the m1 in the middle lane when all of sudden the outer cv joint just locked up, thus throwing my across three lanes of the motorway an going side ways . Luckyly didnt hit anything, anyway i managed to limp it back to the garage where i though i would quickly swap it over an carry on down to pod, i would have made it there for just before dinner so still get a few runs in. Well about 10mins on the motorway the second time it did the same again making me almost crash locked up but this time i got it all the way home without it actually exploding.

Ive never had this, happen before, faulty batch of cvs? when you take the remains of it off the shaft you can see where the shaft has gone purple from the heat and like wise to the cv.

Ive done three now in a week, the first actually welded the bearings to the cv joint, the second locked up and the exploded when i turned a corner, and the third i cant even be ****d to go an have a look at at the moment.

So i was thinking of going for the big shafts with big cv joints on, the ones where you need to machine the hubs down ect.. as it would seem to be less hassle. Any ideas on what to get or where from?

Also all these have gone without me ragging the **** out of it so has nothing to do with the increased power im running now.

Phil

You should be banned from motorways, your a hazard!

As for the shafts in a corsa you can run the equal length shafts from a Cav/Calibra as the corsa's are just wide enough.

You need to get the hubs machined down to fit into the corsa bearings, IIRC i paid the local engineer ?20-30 or similar. Very easily done by anyone with a Lathe, you can go for either the 4 or 5 stud hubs depending on what you want to do.

Then just beat your bearing out your corsa carriers and fit some nice new ones with the bigblock hubs in.

Then obviously you are running the shafts that were designed for the power of the car.

Quick pic of my 5 stud hub machined down, can get some beter ones if you need, its compared to the standard corsa one (obviously the 4 stud one).

Ah i thought you could, next job then is to try an find some shafts in the massive pile at the garage. Need it doing soon as really, job for tomorrow i reckon.

Right im not sure if i'll have any cav/calibra hubs, are the Astra GTE ones the same as weve just striped one of them an have shafts ect...?

Ben

Astra GTE shafts are single piece and TBH if your going to do this use the 2 piece,

The hubs though will do, or any bigblock hubs will do. from a 1800 astra or similar, obviously just try the shaft in the hub before you get them machined

gutted Phil, hope ya get it sorted asap as i want to see your "gay" corsa run some more stupidly quick times lol

well ive found out some astra GTE shafts an hubs, dont we have any equal length ones at the moment but these will do for time being. Its not the actual shafts im worried about snapping at the moment just the cvs, although i have snapped some before in my time. Thing is ive missed out on my testing day before totb so i wont know of any other problems until they arise there.

Thats very odd phil, especially happening 3 bloody times!!

Bet you **** when it happened lol, fair play for keeping it on the road. ive seen nasty stuff happen from seized wheel bearings!

TBH i would think that the shaft was faulty hence going through 3 cv's.

^^ correct the shaft was wrong, took it off and apart an measured it up to one we knew was a corsa one and for reason it was shorter but not as short as a nova one as far as i know? Dont know how that one made its way on to my car though. Strange thing is its been fine up until now.

It takes the piss, whatever happened to being imaginative and different ?

Might look like a 2 door Meriva with a lower roof lol
