IMO the mirrors dont look right, n the fact its got standard look front wit modified rear n side, wheels are lil too big bein 18" giving quite a high stance,

oh and the novaload stickers are on a wonk,(or is that just me)

I say ditch the door stickers that fook off silly tail spoiler.
Change the mirrors for std or dtm
Fit gsi front and flair the arches so he get it lower
oh and unless there is ice in the back ditch the tints too.
Just my opinion on it then it will be ok.

Its your car at the end of the day mate so if you like it fair enough, my old Nova was kitted and chavvy but i bought it that way and wouldnt again, i think my Nova is just how they should look, but thats my opinion. Personally id try to insure your 1.4 and if you cant afford it or they wont insure you, leave it as it is and wait awhile, are your wheels and kit etc. insured at all?

I agree that insurance is very high for young drivers and its easier to not tell them about modifications but if you do have an accident, especially one where someone is seriously injured or worse they will check your car and you could end up in real ****.

And as for racing Ste? You just said it yourself he has 16v XE under the bonnet... why would you bother racing him in a 1400? lol

My insurance isnt too bad, considering im 18 too, then again ive only ever had one quote from one company, will try some others soon.....the quote i got for my 1300sr fully comp, n wit the alloys, kit and exhaust was ?760 which i think is rely good.....

Wat insurance companys are better for engine conversions, cuz im hopin to do one after xmas sumtime....maybe i shud put this in insurance forum....

The red Nova - IMO the bodykit, spoiler, mirrors, stickers and wheels do make it look "chav". You could probably get away with changing the spoiler to something a little more subtle, getting smaller wheels, and removing the stickers to make it look better.

My first Nova was the same, big bodykit and what not and yes I'll be the first to admit it looked chav, even though I was far from it (as I used to say to my friends who were chavs but had fairly std cars - whats worse, a normal person in a chavved car, or a chav in an otherwise standard car? But thats another rant lol). Now I've been there and done that and wouldn't do it again - I daresay in three or four years time when you're early 20's and you look back at pictures of it you'll see where most of the comments are coming from.

Mine aint that chavvy as u can see in my Avatar pic thing, i am 18 tho lol, N kit is bein replaced by GTE, wheels are becomin 16" softstars or speedlines not the 17" voodoo's, and gettin 1600 to tune up, so im startin erly on the original look, even tho my old nova was more original than mine is now......

Iam currently waiting for my 1.4 nova sr to be fully tuned (1.6 ported and polished head, twin 40's, piper cam 4-2-1 manifold rebulit bottom end etc) It is really expensive on my insurance and iam only 21. But at the end of the day you never know whats gonna happen:mad: anyone can crash into you SO INSURE EVERY MOD YOU DO it makes sense i know i have been there:thumb:

Hmm, definition of a chav car is getting harder. IMO, a bodykit has to be fitted proffessionally and look right on the car to get away with not being branded a chav car. That red thing just looks like the fiberglass is hanging off it, and just doesnt look right, therefore I vote CHAV!

I was actually quite taken with it, I thought it looked ok, but i come from a VW background where a bigger wheel doesnt fook up the handling as much as it does on a Nova, and also the MK2 golf boys decided the car looked better subtly modified and ditched the fiberglass way before we did, so i fancied something a bit different. But I look at the pic now, and straight away think CHAV

If all steel was the same width and quality it would be piss easy after a bit of practice. Its just learning to guage how different thicknesses will react. Weldings always been something I wanted to do, as ive always wanted to restore a Manta, and hopefully i will be suitably clued up to attempt it once ive done the nova!

My engine is worth too much for me to trust myself with, so I let other people play with it, although i have built a 1.3 vw engine myself, so im not totally clueless in that department. lol

At the mo its way over a grand mainly because i never stuck with one insurance company long enough to get no claims bonus up:mad: plus i had a nasty crash and iam in the middle of tuning my car so the insurance is sky high. My view on it is stay with a good insurance company get lots of no claims (and no claims bunus protector:thumb:) make sure they can insure your mods before commiting to anything. SHOP AROUND it really helps and stay vigalante on the road its all commen sense really. Its just i did it all wrong and iam paying the price of high insurance, other insuance companys wont even touch melol adrian flux are who iam with and there really good so it should be cheap for you mate if you have a good insurance record!!!:wtf:

erm - dont wanna be a kiljoy or owt but I work for a BIG car insurance company. They have these things called CUE (claims underwriting exchange) MID (motor insurance database used by police) and MIAFTR (motor insurers anti fraud theft register) databases where they share info about the history of a car so for example if one company sees that the car was insured with say "adrian flux" and had a list of mods declared but they are now with say "norwich union" but nothings declared, the underwriters get itchy and investigate. They do this by either writing to the customer asking further information, search the net, cruise boards, car forums etc for the car or just void your policy.

Do yourself a favour and do the following -

1. remove the spoiler and other stick on bits - that alnw will drop the insurance (providing youve declared it).

2. change engine to 1.4 - it wont make that much difference on the premium as novas are relatively slow compared to current production cars. Fill in the section on the V5 registration dogs and send to DVLA.

2a. YES insurance companies do know whether its got a 1.2 in it ir not - they find out when you wrap it round a tree or kill someone being a dick challengine people to races (aka Ste).

3. when they send an assessor out to check the car over and discover that its not what it says on the tin they will void your insurance and tell the police who will take you up the ANUS big time (especially if you hit another car/person/object because that makes you uninsured and thats BAD! eg banned - up to 10 yrs in jail and being mates with Big Bubba)

4. if youre going to drive a modded car at your age either demod it or pay the premium - and the sooner you go fully comp the better (that way you get the no claims discount!)


tbh I quite like the look of the car - except for the spoiler and mirrors and door grafix - fast n furious is so last week.

Amd back to original thread lol, my first nova was a 1.4 astra converted mk1 with a badly fitted abyss kit, when i was 20, now im 24, i swapped it for a 200 1.6 rover haha, sucker!!
Looking back now id never have a shoddy-kitted nova again, imo they should be standard ish, ie 15`s -60mm drop GTE/GSi skirts cordoba/laguna splitters and standard spoilers, i have a mk1 SR on a mk2 and i think it looks quite well, flush boots big no no i think, i just cant see the point of getting a nova and then swapping everything and making it look like anything but a nova, why???
If you want a different car then buy what you want in the first place, rant over lol, oh and sorry mate but Chav!!

What you probably havent noticed about this site is the fact that most of us DONT lay into people (not including a few people) just because they have a bodykit on their car, and are infact very tolerating of intelligent people who can type in english and have decided thats how they wish to modify their Nova.

We DO however lay into people coming on here giving it all the lemon, insinuating that they had sexual intercourse with peoples mothers in a well known shopping outlet, and generally typing like its their second year in infant school, and basically boasting about their complete lack of respect for the law and other peoples safety.

If you wish to be respected on here..

1. Learn how to type
