I had a spare mirror trim piece lying around so I decided to practice my air brushing skills.
First I rubbed off all the texture.. it looks much better smooth anyway and is easier to paint.
Then dusted it over with brushed aluminium silver.

Then had a little fun.

The idea is that its supposed to look like metal panels.
The further away you get the better they look.

nvr-sr..... It's not too hard but you need a lot of patience and a steady hand. I reckon I can paint anything interior wise. It's best if its flat but not too much of a problem if its curvy.
The air brush is about ?140.00 plus paints are a quid each, cleaner is ?4.99, air cans are ?7.99 (will be getting a compressor for ?180.00 real soon.)
I'm thinking about doing a few interior bits like that then also doing a fibre glass boot install the same, Possibly a panel to cover the xbox in the front parcel shelf too. Maybe part of the door cards as well.
I'll try and take a photo of the mirror panel installed at the weekend.

I think I might do one to match then sell them as I've got another set without the mirror adjuster holes (I've got crappy aftermarket mirrors.)
matt - what paint do you use - acrylic, enamel etc...
I bought a dual action brush but tried using cellulose based paint and it vapourised too quickly drying and blocking the feckin brush before I could use it!

I'm currently using Acrylic paint which is ok but I need to find some acrylic friendly varnish as I had a small accident with celulose based varnish. :D
The brush I use is a dual action... it looks cheap but is excellent and comes with a lifetime gurantee as long as you dont take it apart.
Once you get a bit of dried paint in the needle your fooked and have to clean it and start again.
Did you thin the paint down to the consistantly of milk as I think this helps stop it drying too quickly.

Looks good.
I think you need to have a go at doing the underside of a bonnet!!

Slight delay with finishing the air brush due to my Tesco shopping delivery not being delivered till the last 5mins of the 2 hour slot.
I didnt want to start it till after he'd been otherwise it would have been sods law that he'd arrive mid blow.

have u tried halfords aerosol lacquer? its what ive used over my acrylic airbrush work. :)
p.s if u think a compressor is too noisy, hire a bottle of AIR (not oxygen!!) from your local 'air products' or 'BOC' - about ?30 first payment/refil and ?7/month rental...i found this much better for late night air brushing.
that looks so cool, nice style on that.you hav got me thinking about getting some graphies air brushed on to my track Cycle bike when i get it, is the finished produck quiet hard wearing ? would it wotk on a bike ? and how detailed can you get ?

Well enamel paints are harder wearing but a bitch to spray.
I've just been spraying something up and put 6 coats of lacquer on it which has made it pretty hard. I guess the more lacquer you put on the harder wearing it'll be.
As for detail... you can go pretty fine with a detailed nib. It all comes down to whether you have had enough practice.
:thumb: :p thanx got me thinking now

Custom airbrushing costs a pretty penny though
