I'm having real difficulty fitting my new polybushes. I have the TCA off, the bushes are coated in the grease supplied. I have tried putting them in boiling water but the b*stards just wont fit in the hole. If I try using the vice it starts to slide in but then the bush buckles and just ends up being squashed between the TCA and the vice. Has anybody got any ideas on how to fit these things.

I found Stuarts old guide on PVG but it seems to imply that the bushes come in 2 halves and each half is inserted from each side of the TCA. But mine are in one piece.

Please help!

Thanks

I would imagine that putting the bushes in the freezer would be of some use it would shrink them a bit. If you have run out of 'grease', washing up liquid is a very good lube.

Sorted!

I went down to the garage to get the bushes and put them in the freezer and thought I would have another go at putting them in first.

So here is a solution for other people having similar problems in the future.

Get a long bolt, about 6 inches (maybe longer but you should be able to work it out when you come to do it), A suitable nut for the bolt and two washers (the diameter of the washers must be smaller than the external diameter of the bush).

The final piece that really did the trick was an old bearing shell which has the same or similar internal diameter as the external diameter of the bush.

Place the head of the bolt in a vice (thread pointing upwards) and tighten the vice. Drop a washer down the thread. Position the the TCA on the bolt so that the washer covers the hole for the bush. Place the bush over TCA and then put the second washer and nut on top the new bush and start to tighten until the whole assembly is holding its self together.

If you were to start taking the nut down the thread now you would probably find that the bush tries to enter the hole at an angle, this could possibly damage or split the bush. So by placing the bearing shell around the lower part of the bush it will hold its shape as you wind the nut down the thread.

Once the bearing shell is in place keep tightening the nut and you will eventually here a kind of snap sound as the bush pops out the other side and expands into place.

Every company ive ever spoke to about poly bushes for nova's always say that a) not worth the hassle of fitting them yourself and b) you nearly always end up having to hammer the fecking things in!

So goes to show, some of there statement is true lol lol

Ones that come in two halves are easy tho? /\
Put one halve in with the insert, then fit the other half.
