I caved in and took me car to the garage, the chap said it was the distributer that was knackered (as a lot of peeps said). So i give him ?100 and a day later i pick my car up with a new distributer, timing dine and a Krypton tune thingy.

So i give it some large on the way home, get to 6000 RPM and it wont go any more above that! It makes a funny noise, the engine doews not cut out its like i hit a alimiter, it just goes "boom boom boom..." untill i let of the revs.

The chap says this is valve bounce?!

It never did it befoire the new distributer was fitted, so why does it do it now? It shouldnt, and basically i am not happy with what he has done, he had sorted one prob, but in his efforts created another. The timing was slightly retarded (just like the guy who fitted the distributer i dare say!) when i left it with him, but he know says he has put it bang on. Could this be the cause, shouyld i get it retarded again.

It does feel smother now but i cant give it any above 6000RPM it feels like it dies and it is still picking up well untill then.

PLS help again!!!

P.S he also removed my FSE and replaced it with a standard fuel pressure regulator. X-(

Did he say y he removed ur FSE valve? Weird, i would make a mark on ur dizzy/engine so u know where he set it to, then have a play, u probly need to turn it clockwise (looking at the end of the dizzy) to get more revs!
Mines also been playing up and i've changed the timing loads this week!

I get valve bounce in my 1.6 (as was GSI) engine, but that's cos I've had the head done and twin 40's added so its probably capable of revving over 7000rpm now. It occurs at 6500 on my st/d springs so it should be about the same on yours. The noise is more like a sudden ohmygodsomethingsdisintegrated rattley clattery miss fire- there is no boom boom about it.
Fiddling around advancing and retarding the distributor is OK upto a point but u really need to be on a rolling road to be sure its right. The 1 I went on gave a graphical readout of each electrical pulse to each plug and it was easy to see how advancing or retarding worked. At the same time C02 emmissions could be cross checked along with the power output reading. Slight changes to fuelling or timing made a lot of difference.
