Hey up,

Dont make many threads on here so thought id have a go lol

Whats the highest mileage Nova you have ever owned or seen?

My SRi at the minute has just clicked over to 140,000 miles and is still on original everything pretty much, anyone up in this territory on an engine or shell?

Mike
04-07-06, 09:46 AM
SR engine, 118500+k, SR sheel 118500+k and ready to fall to bits! lol

My merit or spin or whatever it is! 52k!! wahooo, shell like new!

my Sr is just over 114000 and it smokes like hell!! shes havin a new lump at the weekend so that should be fun!!the body isnt too bad for an E reg but its not concourse!!

Mike
04-07-06, 09:59 AM
Theres a lot of people either reshelling or changing engines at the minutes isnt there?

TommySR
04-07-06, 10:10 AM
yeah there is, mines currently having new doors, new front wings etc etc. but found some holes underneath :(

My engine still pulls pretty well for what it is and doesnt really smoke to be honest, been owned by a middle aged women for 10+ years so its never been thrashed. Got the original bill of sale when she bought it, bout ?6000 worth

Mike
04-07-06, 10:12 AM
ha ha minted then that is!

A lot of people including myself are doing reshells atm aswell

TommySR
04-07-06, 10:17 AM
it sounds minted but its got the usual skeletons in the closet, had welding done in the past on chassis rails etc etc. She may have never thrashed it but she never really looked after it bodywork wise, got any pics of ya reshell?

Mike
04-07-06, 10:26 AM
ive got the pics on my digi cam and gonna upload them to my thread in general (Today I bough...) on saturday night as ive not got the time at the minute.

It'll be a stealth mode Q plate SR that'll look like a Merit or Spin or whatever it was! lol With T40's and a B+ head

TommySR
04-07-06, 10:32 AM
how come a Q plate? Why not just transfer everything from your SR to the Merit and change the log book engines size?

Mike
04-07-06, 10:35 AM
All because I want to keep the K prefix and not the J! Mad. Yes i know.

But if its a Q plate, then I can get this private reg M3L T40

My initials (MBL) and T40's lol

My black 1.2 was on about 150K when i sold it. only had one HG change lol and it did go for 30K and 2 years with no service :D
would be intresting to know if it still lives on 2 years later.

lol 150k.. anyone bettering that?

Mike
04-07-06, 10:42 AM
A friend of mine had a black Mk1 saloon with 186k+ on it! The previous owner drove it to Morocco and back 5 times in 2 years to see his family!

But it wouldnt count as he's not a member of NL

TommySR
04-07-06, 10:45 AM
Now thats quite a road trip! lol

Mike

TommySR
04-07-06, 12:32 PM
lol, reckon we shud all chop the roofs off or buy Hutchinsons and do a round the world trip? Be awesome if we got hundreds off here and other sites lol Be like the Gumball but bigger but minus the massive entry fee and supercars lol

Mike

One slight problem, only around 200 iirc Hutchinsons made and about as many remain as the amount of fingers on a leppers right hand! lol

But yes it would be fun, although it aint going to happen. :D

TommySR
04-07-06, 12:56 PM
thats where my ingenious roof chop design comes in handy lol Can have all sorts of weird creations lol, reckon we should get a meet going in the Midlands soon though, your only in Wolverhampton arent ya?

Mike
04-07-06, 12:59 PM

I am yes, very close to both jbobo and Baxter. Although at present both my SR and Merit/Spin (whatever it is!) are driving on hopes and dreams with no engines! lol

Nath
04-07-06, 01:18 PM
indeed he is, my old white 1.2 had 110k on the engine and blew the headgasket every week lol

TommySR
04-07-06, 01:19 PM
lol Mines not on the road yet either so guess we will have to wait awhile until we are all sorted, need to find a central location where everyone would be willing to drive to etc.

Mike
04-07-06, 01:25 PM
central? chasewater car park on cannock chase?

TommySR
04-07-06, 01:47 PM

SRlew
04-07-06, 02:03 PM
my brothers first car, merit 1.2. had about 118k on it, then sold it to some one and the head gasket went a week later lol

Tim
04-07-06, 04:22 PM
mine has 124,568 miles on it, the original 1.2 engine has gone in the bin in favor of an xe, and the shell is currently being welded up just about everywhere i can to give her a few more years on the tarmac

04-07-06, 05:03 PM
my gte has 140000 on the clocks, well 40000 but they only go up to 99999... its had the engine rebult at some point. body is good for age (f reg). i'm pleased for ?300 :)

Jack
04-07-06, 05:06 PM
Erm, hatch had something like 117k, and the saloon was a nip under 140k. But tbh I don't consider that to be "high" mileage as I'm now used to Toyota engine build quality lol

Mike
04-07-06, 05:22 PM
high mileage is over 250k, like my dads old toyota Space cruiser beast.

He'd owned it since 1987 and was the second owner, its was an A reg! Sold it in 2004 for a meriva, he still got ?700 for a car with 286k on it!!!

One of these beasts>

Good old toyota power that is but ugly as fook! Was bought with about 18k on clock

Jack
04-07-06, 05:30 PM
^ Alex's parents have the newer model of that - same thing but looks like its been in the sun too long and melted a bit lol

Wasn't there a Volvo or Omega on ebay a while back that had done enough miles to go to the moon and halfway back? And a Golf R32 that had done literally a couple million miles and was on its second engine (apparently used for transporting "goods" across Europe lmfao!)

Tim
04-07-06, 10:59 PM
my dad had an M reg peugeot boxer van with 394k on it, had to scrap it in the end as the bodywork was shot, was all original though

I think my clocks are reading about 105k at the moment but I also wound the clock back 15k a few years ago lol

I was talking to the guy who does my MOTs a few months back and he was telling me about a car he was selling a few months earlier, only 3 years old and was reading about 150k. He went to wind the clock back (as all second hand dealers do) and found a piece of paper stuffed behind the speedo with the words "Oh dear, not again" written on it lol

The nova is a reallll smoker, ill try get some pics, you cant stand behind it put it that way. Still goes really well though especially now the calipers dont stick lol but im forever filling it with oil. used to buy 1 litre of oil from the garage every time I fill up :wtf: dont bother with decent oil as the money i spend on it i might as well burn!
also cant be bothered to fix it lol

Mike
05-07-06, 04:25 PM
For how much you'd save buying oil you may aswell fix it! or scrap it?? lol

My nova had about 98K on it before i scrapped it due to rust.

Seeing as Toyotas etc have crept in - my 1995 Pug 106 1.5 D has got round to 162,000 with no major problems to report thus far :D *touches wood*
