Calling all tuning boffs!
Ive been offered a set of t40's that need rebuilding for ?200 with manifold and my questions are these
1. What will the fuel economy be like with these on an 20xe?
and
2. What sort of power will i be looking at when they are set up?
bearing in mind that they will be fitted to an other wise bog standard xe
any help would be appreciated!:thumb:

i wouldnt have thought you'd get an increase in power as the 40's will be too small, you will need 45's to be honest. The fueling is alright until you foot hits the floor.

I thought i read somewhere on here you could use them on a standard- mildly tuned 20xe? oh well another dream shattered:cry:
cheers anyway:)
is it right that you need a decent cam to see a proper power gain ??

Yep, even onan SR 1400 tbh. But yes 40's on an XE would be to small. 45's is where its at! lol
Ive got a set of 45s with manifold that need rebuilding!! What a coincidence!!

Ta da! there you go then :thumb:
WOAH WOAH WOAH hold yer horses kids lol.
Austin_nova ran T40's on a 20xe and he said that it didnt give him any peak power gains but the bottom end torque gain was emmense. So ok you wont get much more top pace, but for B road bashing it should be a load more fun (assuiming youve got your chassis setup right)
The again for "B road bashin" IMO a 1400 or 1600cc on 40's just for the shear chuckability into corners and the lightweight
(assuiming youve got your chassis setup right)

Even then tho, its still got the front end weight hasnt it :wall: lol
Unless you plan on getting it all setup and corner balanced on coil overs? The it would be better

and the argument of big block and small block engines continues lol
As always! the debates rage on!
Lets start the ARB argument again!

aahhh! Damn it i missed that one...lol
at least in my 1.6SE v's 2.0XE thread i found out that neither is the best. lol
as for the 2.0XE on T40's - do it, if not only for the sound.

Lets start the ARB argument again!
I missed that one?
Its the age old debate about wether or not to run with an anti roll bar!! Gets dragged up again every so often!!
Personally i dont use one!

Oh im with you now. P.s. mines got a roll bar ... and drives sweet! lol
You got coilovers???
Nope, why?
Usually people with coilovers run without it!
whys that? Just because it foul's the engine? use lower mounting brakcets and get around it!
You cna use brackets to lower it, but the way the ARB is on the nova, it does a crap job of doing what its supposed to do!!
With coilovers and the ARB removed it allows the suspension to work independently and IMO improves the handling!
I didnt use one on my XE and i wont be using one on the LET either!

Yeah...used 40's before with 36mm chokes.
Was blinding for 2nd gear starts, but power tailed off nearer the top of teh range. Found that I also needed a paddle clutch with them aswell, as the low rev torque would spin the original clutch.
I moved to 45's on 38mm chokes which I'm now quite happy with.
Why not just buy them anyway, as 200 not a bad price with a manifold etc aswell...could alsways sell them and get 45's anyway....
