just put a GTE engine in my car, runs fine apart from it wont idle properley, revs just rise up and down,

the car never stalls, just the revs are very erratic.

any ideas?

have you tryed to adjust the idle/mixture screw in the inlet manifold or possible air leaak start it up and spray wd40 round the air pipes to see if that helps

the idle screw dosent make a difference mate, as it dosent idle long enough, as soon as the revs drop to around a thousand its straight back up to around 2500. it just carries on hunting like that

dosent even attempt to idle, and also when i first start up it revs to around 3500, then drops, then does the above

It will prob be a faulty idle control valve mate. It is possitioned where a carbed engine nov would have its mechanical fuel pump. Replace or clean in with carb cleaner. Should sort it

i cleaned it mate, but still no joy.

i heard today that it could be the throttle position sensor

my gte is doing exactly the same thing... i would lovew to know what to do. it also missfires slightly and is pinking. i retarded the ignition and that solved all but the slight missfire, although now it's down on power :(

i had my gte race tuned today, and they struggled to tune it and found a tiny hole in the intake pipe which was causing the idle to raise and drop... plug your car up to a analyser and spray some wd40 over the intake pipe and watch for any changes... ordered a new pipe from vauxhall today, ?18!!
