View Full Version : Lightening hit my phone line and blew my modem up,Lol
lol
This afternoon during that massive storm(worst ive seen for years)
heard a massive crack and saw a bit of smoke out my window(where the phone line runs)
Turned my pc on, and modem is dead, unplugged it, and theres all bits of burnt resistor etc inside it lol
So am now uisng an ancient 33K modem lol
Lesson learned, i think my surge protector 6-1 plug extender saved my entire pc from going up in smoke.
Just thought you might of been interested to know, lol.

It seems only stoke had a thunderstorm yesterday, just been on the news, a few people hit by lightening, buildings' roofs set on fire etc etc.
It probably would of killed my pc if it had of been a internal modem and not a external one.

Not always, I used to work in a PC shop, usually it just blows a certain component on the modems.

F**k off i'd never work there :p.
It was a local one, the company mainly dealt with corporate stuff, but if you worked for the corporate side you could expect to have to work in the shop from time to time aswell.

I think thats what its done, the modem still works(gets recognised by Windows etc)
then click connect and it just goes Burrrrrrr(getting quieter) and it flashes up a message, no dial tone could be found.
Use the other modem and it works fine.
So it funked my old one.
