View Full Version : F13 Gearbox
Going to change my F13 gearbox which has "W 4 18" written on it, to an F13 gearbox with "C 3 74" wtitten on it. I know one is wide ratio and the other is a close ratio box, but what is the main difference i will notice whilst driving my car. Is it a huge difference in accelaration or is it a slight insignificant difference that I wont notice much.
Also is it a straight swap as they are both F13's ?
Cheers
G
The first one is a wide ratio box with a high final drive, the second is close ratio with a lower final drive.
Not sure how much difference you would notice, probably the CR one will accelerate better, even with a lower FD.
Yep, straight swap.

i fitted a F13 Cr to my 1.2 and it totaly kills a WD box lol
just ask nathan :p
Fit the CR box with the FD from the W box... uber accel :D
I'm going to be putting an F13cr 3.74 fd in my car soon (got the box just haven't got the time to do it). I'm hoping that the car will be a little more more fun to drive even with the lower fd ratio. You should notice a difference in the acceleration without losing too much top end.
If you are going for balls out accelaration like Stuart then you may want to fit a 4.13 fd but probably not practical for motorway use.
its not terrible, its just a little higger revving than normal... if your stripped out its a tad annoying but saying that i can fall asleep in dans track car on most road trips we do lol
what revs would it be doing at 60 mph in 5th gear and have you an lsd
see speed in gear in the sig....
lsd makes feck all difference to your speed lol (unless you mean acid ;) )

got close ratio f13 box and bought a 4.18 final drive to go in.
what box's came with this final drive?
see the nova/corsa gearbox image links in the speed in gear link on my sig.....
would you be able to tell me what revs the engine does at 60 mph in 5th gear please with the f13 cr with a 4.1 my computer cant log on to your site.
and have you got a lsd fitted or not does it spin wheels a bit too easy without one

very useful site that is in Stuarts sig by the way, ive got a C14SE and wonderin how much of a difference one of these boxes would make and how cheap i can find one for? Engines totally standard bar filter and 4 branch, is it worth it as im only running this motor into the ground before ive got enough money for my engine conversion?

i got my gearbox free and bought the FD from ebay under ?50 i think. havent finished my engine yet so haven't tryed it but spose to make a good acceleration differents.
Mine is going in this weekend as well. Will let you know what the difference is when it's back on the road (probably monday as I have some other bits and pieces to do at the same time).
