i went into halfords the other day and enquired about lowering my 13sr by 60mm all round by just using springs.however, the guy started chattin bollocks about the suspesion bottoming out all the time and i would need to buy dampers!is this true or wud i get away with just the springs?cheers

I`d definately get the shocks to match. You might get away with it at first, but the standard shocks will soon give up, and you`ll not only be bottoming out, but also replacing shocks on a regular basis.

Does anyone know if lowering 35mm or 60mm is better for handling? I`m down 35 at the moment, but it looks really high as I`ve got no weight in the back. Will going down further ruin my superb handling?

I have 60mm's on mine and think it is a bit 2 low 4 best handling. I thnk 45mm is suppose to be the all round best.

If you talk to the competition tuners the general oppinion is that -25mm to -30mm is best for handling, I have -60mm springs which aren't really suited to some of the roads here in Yorkshire. I am seriously considering fitting some -30 springs. I dont know if this all applies to coil overs though, I think you could get away with it a bit lower.

My handling is superb, but because I`ve stripped my motor bare, its really light, and doesnt look like its been lowered at the back. Thats why I`ve asked. At the end of the day though, I want performance not looks, so If 35 is better I`ll stick with that. Cheers.

I don't have any rear seats in mine at the moment, so the arse does get a bit happy on the round abouts some times. I'm thinking of getting some sand bags till I have sorted it.

Sorting this out has been a prob. for me at the present. My car's has a 60mm drop and is on 16" rims and withwhatever shocks had been fitted it wasn't a lot of fun on the rougher roads. I have now fitted (on advice from Motech) shortened and uprated shocks (G-Max ?33 ea.) These have made a lot of difference and it's fine over all surfaces now with enough give and no bottoming out. If you go 60mm def. go for shortened shocks.
Cheers Motech!:D

Check out www.motech.uk.com or phone 01933 316066. The bloke I spoke to was Justin who knows a bit about the problem as his brother had a Nova.
Fuck me I ought to be gettin commission !:D

Very scary thought!

I think I may sue Sheffield council, 'cos our roads are the crapist in the UK....they must be!
I think of what damage those fucking pot-holes could be doing to my pride and joy, and I think, fucking council...they should pay for my next set of shocks!
They have repaired some of 'em, but all they do is fill them in temporarily, and it only lasts a few months, before it's a pot-hole again! There was one on the main road...the main road for fk's sale, not a back road....that was 3 inches deep!!!! No exaggeration!
It was small enough to miss, but if you hit it (as I did last week), it's like smacking the curb head-on!

That's my rant for the day :D

If you drop it 60mm you must correct the camber or it will handle very badly.
